Hey Tom Long winter huh. Ive actually seen quite a few here on the site and as far as I can remember the only mod required would be the addition of the second brake up front with the different fork leg and assosiated brake lines

Yep.. nothing to it. You don't have to use the double disc/caliper set up if you don't want to.. just use the rotor on the appropriate side. Or you could use the double rotor setup and only one caliper.. explain that it's your spare.

I have a 06 Speedmaster that I am putting America spoke/lace wheels on. Should be able to sell the rear rim, the front rim & tire (only 2k miles on OEM tire), the right disk and brake caliper by next weekend. If you are interested?

I've got Speedy wheels on my America. The only required mod not alreay mentioned is that you will need the speedy brake resivoir if you are going to run the twin disk brakes. There was a long discussion on this a while back about proper braking force and that the america res. may fail on dual front calipers. I didn't notice a difference but I didn't want to take the chance of a failure. If you are trading parts be sure to swap the res. too as it is engineered as part of a complete brake circut. NR

I doubt the BA master would fail, what was the reasoning?

It's not that the master'll fail if you use a BA master with twin disks... it's more that the brakes might fail to operate correctly. The Speedy master has a wider piston which moves more fluid to operate the two calipers. Using the BA master with its narrower piston on dual calipers will have the lever bottoming out before the calipers operate fully. It'll probably be fine with new pads on a cold bike, but warm things up a little with worn pads and you could run out of brake real quick.
The opposite happens if you run a speedy cylinder with a single calliper - it'll get "grabby" and brake way too quickly.
If it wasn't important to have the different sizes, do you really think Triumph would have done it at extra cost?

TBH I priced up buying just the parts I needed when I upgraded the 06 to the TBS wheel. It's cheaper to get the kit, well it is here in the UK anyway. The kit includes the SM master cylinder, the extra disc, all the clips bolts, everything. (I had a spare caliper and disc and by the time he'd written the price of the cylinder and the fork leg....it was beyond the price of the kit.) You got the hint yet. BUY THE KIT!

03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel...
06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel...
09 America - It's very blue....

After talking to some friends (on this forum) and around here, I think I have to deiced how far I want (and can afford) to go with this project. I may be better off just looking for a set of used aluminum America wheels off a newer bike for now. Thanks again for all the help!!

If you can get a deal on Speedy wheels you can do the direct swap without upgrading your brakes. Seems to me to be little point in that but it's been done. Upgrade the brakes later after you collect the parts you need as money allows.
Maybe you could do the wheels and upgrade the brakes later. Recently I've posted elsewhere about how I swapped parts with a Speedmaster owner to get the brake parts I needed.

Does anyone have the url for the earlier conversation about Speedy vs TBA front reservoir sizing?
As stated earlier, I am going from speedmaster rims to TBA rims - with a single front brake. Not sure I am 100% behind the idea, I need to downsize. Definitely can see the other way around.

FriarJohn, Looks like back on April of 08 you were running a speedmaster master cylinder with a single front disk. Did you ever get your issues worked out?
Thanks

I've been running the Speedmaster master cylinder with my stock single disc wheel ever since. I never had any further issues/problems with it, but it will be interesting to see the difference with the dual discs (it better be noticeable after all this). A number of different life events (and a whole heap of laziness) conspired to prevent me from finishing the conversion. It's warming up around here and the TBS wheel has fresh rubber on it and is ready to go. Should be able to mount it up in the next few weeks.

There's also the option to NOT install the second disc/caliper etc. This nifty CHROME finisher, made just for this situation. I no longer need it, so it is available to anyone who'd be interested.
