1 of the guys in the chopper forum I belong to took this pic at "The Red Back rally" held here in Victoria, Has anyone else seen this done? Also how much machining is needed to do away with the cush drive?  Brings a new meaning to a wide tyre front end

What are we looking at here Paul? Is that a particularly wide tire up front? And in regards to the cush drive thing... why?

Keith, it appears to be a 1st gen Speedmaster rear wheel on the front. Interesting.
Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through but it cures one of the things that bugs me about the earlier Speedy wheels. They don't match.

I like the look of it, but I'm thinking it'll be horrid to ride in a cross wind, maybe a great way to make it into a Bobber though

No cush up front, only in the rear wheel to take up the driveline shock. So really, match up the inner bearing diameters, fit a proper rotor and make a set of proper spacers and you're done.

Have to do something with the area the cush drive vacated, would look ugly just left alone.

Maybe I'm way off base but I thought I saw a rotor peeking through from the other side. I've never thought to look, does the sprocket bolt pattern match up to a rotor?

No, you wouldn't be able to see the rotor through those little cut-outs, The sprocket mounts to the cush assembly so that wouldn't do, also the bolt pattern and sizes are completely different. I think I know why there's no picture of the other side.  I would have flipped that wheel around to lean the ugly side to the ground when parked. The old wives tale that solid wheels are bad in the wind is an overstatement at best, (I've had a Fat Boy for 13 years). A set of spokes spinning at 75 mph doesn't let much more wind through then a frisbee.

Its running twin discs, but only 1 calipor by the look of the brake line, hence why I asked how much machining would be needed, or just get a custon brake rotor I suppose

I stand corrected, I'm getting old and blind. I do see the rotor through the cutouts and see that there is no brake line. I'm sure the rotor takes some of the sting out of the cush drive appearance. I just looked at my rear wheel in the garage which has the cush drive removed. It looks like there is just enough meat where the the rotor would mount to support for looks not enough to actually be clamping down on with a caliper; so drill, tap and go, just don't stop.
