Yet another school shooting, this time in my home town. Knoxville, Tn, Inskip Elementary. Disgruntled teacher(male) walks into the office and shoots the principal and assistant, principal both female. My daughter-n-law is a second year educator at this school. She had left the school grounds just mins before the shooting as school had been released early today because of weather. Only two students and a few staff members were still in the building at the time of the shooting. The shooter was arrested just down the road. The principal is in serious condition with two bullets in the back, one lodged against her spine. The assistant is fairing much better. What is wrong with today's society when a person reaches the point where they feel their life is over but they do not have the balls to end it. They would rather end another's life with a 38. Weak ****** is what I call this type of person. Shooting

Unbelievable...the things happening in the world today. My wife and I are both teachers. Her school went on "lock down" for 15 minutes today because of a 'situation' that happened. She still doesn't know what really went down yet. We're not even safe in schools or churches anymore.

Just my opinion. About thirty years or so ago, our culture ditched the wisdom of childrearing which many previous generations had used to instill values. Psycologists supplanted these age old ideas and inserted their ideas about "building self esteem" and "rewards based discipline". We now have a culture that is truly nacisistic and weak. People can't deal with the occasional rejection or criticism, and feel their bruised self esteem is worth the death penalty. I was a teacher for about 5 years. I've been there. And I pray for all the teachers out there doing one of the country's toughest jobs. God help them!

Holy Crap Mike, that is bad. It's a shame when teachers or administrators can't be safe in their school. I hope the prinicpal and assistant recover and they throw the book at that as*hole. I'm glad your daughter-in-law is safe.

This news is hugely disturbing with numerous long term repercussions for the community. I truly hope the two victims recover fully both physically and emotionally.

Our entitlement generation is forgetting limits. It seems like people used to respect that they only had enough freedom to swing their fist as far as it took to avoid the other person's nose. Now they swing without regard and then scream louder that the other guy didn't move their nose out of the way. Hopefully the media didn't get that story out there too far, as it seems to breed copy cat crimes. Glad the victims are ok, and the shooter is going to pay for the crime. We'll keep you in our prayers. Take care.

Mike, sorry to hear about this tragedy so close to home. It's really gotten bad when the schools not only have to worry about students doing this type of thing, but also fellow teachers striking out on each other. You and your family, and the school, are in my prayers.

Looks like this guy had all kinds of red flags that were ignored. Seems to be more and more the story.

(BTW Mike, I'll be pullin' for the moron's two victims here too!!!)

I can totally relate to all of this. Three months ago yesterday a hostage situation occurred in my school district (Pine Plains middle/high school). My neighbors/best friends had both kids in school at the time. 12 and 16 years old. Talk about in your face. I've known those kids since the oldest was going to kindergarten.
Astaren stated: "Just my opinion. Well said sir!
Another great quote - "Spare the rod and spoil the child."
Granted, on both these occasions, adults were the culprits. But it's children doing it more often than not. Would ANY of us ever consider bringing a weapon of any kind to school with harmful intent when we were still of that age? Heck no, because we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that our dads would kick our butts big time!
For crying out loud, it's getting so if a kid just has a string of bad days, his parents are thinking about putting him in therapy. Elementary school kids are being expelled for bringing squirt 'guns' to school. And what's with having your fingernail clippers confiscated before getting on an airplane. You've got to be kidding me. If 'Candid Camera' had an skit about some idiot trying to commandeer an airliner with a nail clipper back in the early 70's, the entire crowd would be laughing their butts off. A repeat of that same episode today would show quite a few genuinely worried passengers, especially if the 'hijacker' were Middle Eastern.
Now I'm kind of hardcore when it comes to watching this great country of ours slowly going down the crapper. The erosion of America's foundation is an ongoing thing that began many years ago, on many fronts. A lot of it's due to politicians bending over backwards to please everyone BUT Americans. I'm not liking what I'm seeing. Between the government, the media, and security everywhere, the majority of Americans are little more than timid sheep, afraid of their own shadows. There are still plenty of us out there that won't go to slaughter timidly - witness Flight 93 on 9/11. God bless each and every one of them.
You want to know how to stop 95% of all school shootings?
You make it law that ANYONE who brings a gun to school and threatens someone with it WILL BE TERMINATED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE as soon as is feasibly possible. Even if they surrender. No trial. No extenuating circumstances - not even age. You knew the penalty. You did it. You're history. Period.
Do that two or three times and IT WILL STOP.
This hits close to home. The needs of the many must supersede the needs of the few. If only our government would take that statement to heart. I'm not going to get into arguments here with those of you who may disagree with this. I don't want to hear that the shooter was only 13 years old and took a bullet between the running lights just before he was about to open up on a classroom of terrified defenseless children.

Also the ability to think is stripped away. We've had a cubscout expelled from school here because he brought a camp tool to eat his lunch to school. Just a multi tool that had a fork, spoon and little knife (Like a tiny butter knife) and he got kicked out of school for zero tollarnace until the media interveined, yet kids are harrassing and bullying and getting away with it.

Doubt THAT'll "make it stop", Thom! Nope! Ever heard of "suicide by cop"??? Oh, you HAVE, huh?!
Yep! People who do crazyazz crap like this WANT to "go out in a blaze of 'glory'", my friend. Yep! just like those those two Columbine kids "raised by" their moronic "parents" who hadn't a friggin' CLUE what the h*ll their little progeny were up to, because(and I'm guessin' here) they were MUCH too busy makin' money to NOTICE that their little darlings were goin' off the deep end.
Yep! It's the friggin' PARENTING(or what passes for "parenting") in today America. And, THAT has NOTHING to do with "the government", OR "the media", OR "security everywhere". PEOPLE TODAY want to blame EVERYTHING on some OTHER entity, or on someone else BUT THEMSELVES.
THERE'S ya the REAL problem, or at least one of the MAIN problems with "today's America", Bro!
When 50% percent of kids grow up in BROKEN HOMES, with "Daddy's livin' over there with his new wife, because Mommy and Daddy didn't realize that "For better or for worse" MEANS "For better or for worse" when they said it at the altar,(and BTW...THIS phenomenon persists THROUGHOUT the wide political spectrum of individuals...just in case you didn't think it does!!!)...well anyway...when the kids see that Mommy and Daddy weren't MATURE ENOUGH to "work it out" then WHY would the kids today have any respect for their elders or most ANY institution today, like I had for MY parents who stayed together for 51 years and until my mother died!
(in other words...for those out there with rugrats OR contemplating HAVING rugrats...in the immortal words of Crobsy, Stills and Nash..."TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL!!!)

In other words Dwight... traditional values play an important part in the making of a healthy society. They did and do! Things like (to inadvertently quote the title of a great album from yesteryear) Love, Devotion and Surrender. Those three words, which are HUGE... sum it up quite well.
I could go on... but enough said. This is not the time or place to rant. This is a time to exercise sensitivity and due compassion. There are many issues at hand... it is our nature to work them out... after the shock and grieving.

Yes, you're right Keith. I suppose I should apologize for my rant here, and so I shall. I apologize.
(but hey, I haven't had a good rant for a while now ya know...well, that of course is IF you DON'T count my rants to Larry about all his political crap HE'S always tryin' to sneak in around here!!!)

And to quote a great musician/mentor... "what's the matter, did I say something wrong?"... Tom Waits. I just wanted to end on a lighter note so as not to be a 'heavy' here. And another quote from the great film 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being'.... "life is light!"
Not sure why I am so full of quotes tonight but they all seem to say it as good as, or better than me. Stepping outta line is the business of people who live on the edge so if I was kinda out there... I too apologize. No disrespect intended.
Live to love, love to live.

Yeah, Nuff said. And so, "maybe" we ought'a end this sidetrackin' of this thread now, considering it IS about the very serious subject of life and death. (and Mike, please accept another apology of mine for these "fun and games" of mine in your thread about this very sad news...and I'm still pullin' for those folks back there)
