That the odds of your printer dying increase the more recently you've purchased/refilled ink cartridges ? Add a photo cartridge and it is almost a guarantee.

Actually, I think it is only the power module. Initial checks on the web placed that at $30, $40 or $50 dollars, plus $8-$10 in shipping. Only paid $60 or $70 for the printer in the first place.

I did find one on eBay for about $10 shipped, worth a flyer.

I have a Brother printer, I can buy a new printer cheaper than I can buy new ink cartridges. Go figure.

Printer manufacturers, are in the business of selling "INK" not printers, I have a Canon, and to replace the 4 cartridges each time, is actually more expensive than buying the printer in the first place,
but being the lazy sods most of us are and the printer manufacturers know it, when it comes to adding new programs and such to our computers, we take the easy way out, and just buy the refills

I have always thought or heard that new printers only have half or less ink in. So you HAVE to buy new ink cartridges quite soon . Thats where they earn their money !!Thats why they sell them cheap. atb geoff

I found a shop near where I live that sells generic ink cartridges. I haven't tried them yet, but I was told they are half the price and hold twice as much ink.

I jus bought a new HP all in one printer, the other day, it ran out of ink. very fast i might add , so i got on the phone and called them;......... and this girl explained all the things that my printer would do! All i wanted to know is why it just stopped working; And after talking to her for this hour, of wonderful things my printer will do. She sez .btw see check and see if your out of ink!
I was a little ready to , go find her. and plant one between her eyes............jus kiddin! But why didn't she just say the last sentence in the first place. And yes i was paying $27.00 for black ink. And now i'm using ink faster,......and the ink is twice as much...go figure!

I finally went out and bought a laser printer. Most o' what I print is b&w anyway and the colour stuff (usually pics) I do outta house. Picked up that laser for $70 new... I remember when they were a couple grand!!

PS... I know people who fill their own cartridges. Of course some o' 'em have a chip in 'em which tells the printer it is empty, even if ya just filled the dang thing.

I get ink extremely cheap from an Ebay company, not refilled either. I have an Epson with individual cartriges for 6 different colors. I got 4 black and 3 of the rest for $14 shipped. Just about time to do it again if they are still around. It's been a while since that ink lasted a long time.

I've got a Lexmark all-in-one for the odd bit of printing I do. Its much better than the Epson I had cos I used to use half the cartridge trying to clean the heads.

Like I said, I don't do a lot of printing, I've just about finished the second cartridge after 4 years
