Evening all. Now that family matters are fairly well taken care of, I finally got some time today to actually get some 'hands on' time with my baby, which beats the heck out of scouring the net for needed parts and getting them ordered. Today I started mounting parts on the bike & working on various other details. One of those was cutting & shaping the padding for my old butt on the sprung seat. My neighbor Spanky gave me the padding from and old Harley seat which was way bigger than I needed so that needed to be trimmed to approx. size. Then I had to cut a pocket in it for the gel pad I ordered. [image] [/image]

[image]http:// [/image] There's still shaping to be done here & I'm debating whether to attempt covering it myself or not. S'pose I'll do a practice piece - got plenty of leather - & see how it turns out before making up my mind.

Going to cover the gel with memory foam? The articles I have read say the best results come from sinking the gel 1/4 extra into the foam and covering it with memory foam and shape. I am by no means an upholsterer just read about it since I want to Do Wendy's seat eventually.

In all my shopping around online, I stumbled across an aftermarket dampener for DNA springers & just had to have it. It's the same OEM part used on the expensive Harley springers & is supposed to improve the ride stability greatly - no pogoing. Heck, for 1 Benjamin I now have the look of a top of the line springer. I'd bought a length of brass 1/4" x 1" x 36 with the thought of fabbing up my own fender struts. That went by the way side since I found an outstanding machinist to custom fab a sissy bar for me. I'll have pics of that in a few days when it arrives. Anyway, I figured what the heck, lemme attempt to make a headlight bracket. Should've taken more pics of this in progress - only got one. [image]http:// [/image] Lemme tell ya', it wasn't easy to bend the stuff (bench mounted vice). I could only manage to get a slight curve in it. I figured I'd try some Mapp gass on the bad boy to make the whole process easier and got the surprise of my life when after a few minutes, it didn't even begin to glow cherry red. Even bending it immediately after turning off the torch, it bent exactly the same as if I hadn't heated it at all. I learned something today - brass dissipates heat very quickly. Within a minute after taking it out of the vice, I could hold the heated section with my bare hand.

A few pics of the bracket mounted with an old skool headlight attached. The bracket still needs to be bent at approx. a 45 degree angle just behind the headlamp cuz the lamps adjusted as low as it will go and still pointing at the sky, but I'll need someone with a seriously heavy brake to do that for me. [image]http:// [/image] You can also see where the front turn signals will be mounted (approximately). I turned a set of the DNA fender tabs around to support them but the detachable bracket on the end of the tabs will need to be fabbed to make them work.

[image]http:// [/image] These are 4 1/2" lamps but the single one looks a tad overwhelmed by the sheer size of the front end. I've got a duplicate on the way & it'll be mounted under this one.

I also got the starter motor mounted & had one float bowl off the carbs to replace the 120 main that was in there with a 160 (Dinqua) but to my surprise, the mains she sold me don't fit on these carbs. Here's a pic of the 120: [image]http:// [/image] I know, it doesn't look like the caliper's fully closed but it's measuring the width of the threads, not the smaller diameter section at the very end. The camera angle doesn't help either.

Here's a shot of the 160's she sold me. [image]http:// [/image] Do I maybe have to change the brass body the mains screw into when using a jet this large?

Evening Dog33. Hope all is well with you tonight. Memory foam huh? I hadn't heard of that but am darned sure ready to try some. I mounted the pan again, put the padding on it, had a seat & was not pleased. The darned thing felt like I was sitting on Sandstone, which is to say, a few levels below Granite on the MOH's scale. I will get me some and give it a shot.
Thanx.

Nope, you just the wrong jets. There are a couple of flavors of Keihins and you want to insure you 're getting the CVK jets when you order them. The local Honda shop should have the correct jets for you or you could order them from Bellacorse (I've had good results from there).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

There are a couple different CVK mains too so your best bet is to take the jet with you to compare. The difference is visible. There is a Mikuni (sp?) main that works too but I don't know what model they came from. I put those in Wendy's bikes because my friend had them in his shop.

I would think that a hydralic press would bend that brass strap. You know, situate it between two blocks and press down until the right curvature is found.

I tried that with my press when I was bending the stainless for my headlight mount, it kept popping out. I ended up wrapping cardboard around it in my vise and beating it into submission with a sledgehammer.

make sure you pad it pretty well, the more you pad it the less you have to sand out after.

I learned the hard way that it's better to determine where any holes need to be & drill 'em before you bend up the stock. This is the lower hole on the bottom bracket after I bent it up. Took me a good 1/2 an hour with the clamps I had on hand to figure out how to hold the sucker down... [image]http:// [/image]

While I was in that area, I figured I might as well disconnect the air injection. Couldn't find the correct size/shape wrench to get at the bugger, so I put a 1 1/2" heavy duty cutting disk on the Dremmel & sliced thru it. Had to make 2 cuts to knock it down enough to get a socket on it. Was surprised how quickly it cut - 15 seconds tops. [image]http:// [/image] Plugged the holes with the Brit. Customs low profile kit.
