Is thet 6000 from new? I would have expected alot more out of a chain and sprockets.

I got about 23,000 miles out of my chain and sprockets and I only lubed them 4 times. My rear sprocket showed no visible wear and my front showed very little. The chain was shot but I probably could have gotten another couple thousand out of it if I wanted to chance it. What caused yours to wear so fast?

FriarJohn went to the belt drive and had issues with it. If I remember correctly, I believe he went back or is going back to the chain drive. Could be wrong but I know he wasn't thrilled.
Maybe he will chime in and have something to say...

Yup, John had one. But 6000 miles only? Wonder why...!

Would somebody please put this as a sticky so Ian doesn't have to keep copying and pasting from his spreadsheet of common posts.
Sorry Ian, I just couldn't go without saying something again.

To be a part of the thread now, I've got 18k on my chain, and I'm due for a replace. My sprockets on the other hand look alright.

It's 06 but I only bought it last june, bike looked like brand new but dont know how it was treated or looked after by previous owner. everything else looks immaculate, just no more adjustment on the chain and sprocket teeth are starting to look a bit pointy.

Can one even purchase a QPD now?

And re your chain, get the oem chain kit. The math on cost favors the chain kit. And Ian gets buttloads of mileage on them too.

Also, if you need a chain kit odds are you have around 20K on the odometer. Check your tires and your rear brake pads for wear too.

Is that really close enough to my other posts to be a copy and paste? I typed it fresh!

I was going to go with the cheaper Honda stuff but I got such good wear out of the Triumph parts I shelled out the cash for the Triumph kit again.

I have about 6000 miles on my 07. I put on a bigger front sprocket last month. Cleaned everything when I had it apart and the rear sprocket and chain seemed totally fine.

I'm with Ian. I'm using the stock Triumph stuff, and getting 20 thous plus on the life. Sometimes, stock is the better call. Although the belt drive stuff is cool, it doesn't seem to me to be worth the cost and lasts no longer.

I use the Triumph kits too.. I've had great service out of them. I'm also very pleased with the 18 tooth primary gear as well.. dunno why it took so long to make the change from the 17.. just stubborn I guess.
Belt drive? just not my bag...maybe I'm just too old school. Belts should hold up your pants.. not propel your bike.

I had the belt drive on my 02 for about 10k miles and then moved it to my 07 for another 8k miles until I traded it in.
I had no problems with it.
It did help keep the rear wheel a bit cleaner.
it is a matter of choice and money.
it is up to you.

I too have the QPD belt drive. I love it. Quieter, smoother and much cleaner. Sure, it's a pita to swap belts (broke mine once) but after doing it a few times on mine and others bikes, it can be swapped in less then an hour and two beers.

Still waiting for Scootworks to come out with a belt drive for the America/Speedy. They have them for the Bonny and Legend. The statement "- Belt Drive Conversion Kits: America - Coming Soon!" has been up for a long time.
