What are you guys paying to get your tires replaced on your speedmasters? I figured about 400.00 to have the dealer do it. any feedback wd. be great.

Ordered tires from American Moto Tire:
Metzler ME880 (love them!):
Front: $88 shipped
Rear: $117 shipped
American Moto Tire
I've yet to see anyone beat those prices on the Metzlers.

Pulled each wheel myself and took the front to a local shop. They charged me $25 to mount and $7 for a new inner tube.
Had daughters boyfriend do my rear, gave him $20, reused the inner tube (no rust on the valve stem).
$400 for two tires sounds pretty expensive.
Mounting the front tire solo was a breeze, but trying to do the rear by myself was a challenge. Get an assistant and both are pretty simple.

For 880 Metzelers about $130 for the rear and $90 for the front, plus 10% for prorated road hazard warranty, and $11.99 each for tire installation when you bring in the wheels at Cycle Gear.

Yeah, I went to National after a bad experience with Cycle Gear. I ordered the front tire, was told it would be about three days, I called a week later, no tire. Was told that the manager would trace it. Called a week after that, manager was out of town at district meeting, left no info, tire still not in. I went to Cycle Gear got my deposit refunded, went to National Cycle, ordered tire, had it three days later. Had e-mail conversation with Cycle Gear National HQ as well as with district rep. Told them that they lost me. They seemed upset and said they would notify me about resolution. That was a week ago.

Did you have the wheel bearings inspected and lubed when you changed your tires?

Are you kidding, as an insensitive clod, not much offends me!
Btw, polishing things like crazy, as you predicted: Float bowls on carbs, clutch actuation arm.
Might do my fork covers again. Didn't sand them, and they only improved slightly in shine. Their stainless, right? Do I need something different polish/paper wise with stainless?

I think i'm about 800 miles from my 18,000 mile check up.

i might just have the dealer do it while they check things out...

I knew you wouldn't be able to stop once you got the hang of it and realized what a simple process it is. Stainless is harder than the crapier soft aluminum Triumph uses so you won't have to use low grit paper under 800 or so. Stainless usually doesn't get the deep scratches. Don't use the emery rouge on it. Use a medium to fine rouge and then do a final buff with finishing rouge. I just stopped at Eastwood and they had about three 5 gallon buckets of polishing rouge they were getting rid. A $1 a stick.

Thanks. Not sure I want to pull those forks off again, but if we get a deep snow today, who knows.
Good score!
Have you ever used any of the Eastwood Clear coats they offer?

****** Al, looks like I'll be stuck in the house for the rest of the week! We got about 2 feet up here in Pottstown. I'll be digging everything out today. I guess I'll start to take the bike apart now, its a once a year process

I never tried their clearcoats at Eastwood. I usually don't do a clearcoat. Just don't know why, I guess I like the polishing too much

We have about 7" or so, guess it could have been worse. I was going down tothe Timonium bike show today with some buddies. Parking was a disaster yesteray, according to the Balt RATS, not sure I'm making the trip today.
Have fun polishing! Might dive back in myself if stuck home.
