Guess we know why the tooling is being shelved.

Because they don't stand a chance at meeting the SAE J2825 noise standard, the one the AMA is backing to try and even the playing field between stupid loud pipe boys and the increasingly angry suburban world. SAE J2825 is actually a very fair measurement allowing a nice volume without going overboard.

Same here. They are my favorite sounding pipe. I was hoping to get a set someday but I guess I will just have to pull the baffles out of my EPCO's and see if I can get a lower tone thataway.

Looks like these are up for a fair bid (scroll down): http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=0#Post435407

Glad I finally put a set on my bike a couple of months ago. I love the sound. Even the Harley boys I ride with comment on the throaty sound. I guess those of us that have them now have something special
Young enough to care-less & old enough to know-better. Sooo how do you like me now!!! Whaaaat!!

So are other exhaust mfgr's in this predicament? Specialty Spares, for example? Epco? Bub? Or do they just have better/more baffling to comply with the regs?

because so few of us are commenting on their demise.

Bub has been the first to step up to the plate with a compliant pipe. Probably won't see more until the standard actually gets adopted into community regulations; that would be a good thing to it surplant the hodgepodge of "I think it's too loud" laws that are on the books right now. The AMA has a good campaign and they've been very successful on the behalf of riders for a long, long time.
My Specialty Spares pass the idle test but fail the swept test so I'm trying a series of different baffling options to see what will work. Like the Sceptres, the SS get approval from all of the riders I've been around and never fail to get a "Man, that Triumph sounds great" respect.
On the other hand, Moe might be the one who's correct. Not many owners posted about the demise so it could just be lack of sales.

I think it's only a matter of time before the wowsers out there apply more regs regarding noise from overly loud pipes. As usual the obnoxiously noisy pipes out there being the lowest common denominator in the community have had the effect of forcing apon us noise regulation amendments. That is one of the main reasons why I bought the Staintune pipes as they are what we call in Aus, ADR (Aus Design Rule) compliant. Of course that's only as long as I keep the restrictors left in, which as a matter of fact I'm taking out today The beauty is though, it only takes 5 minutes to put the restrictors back in if need be due to me being pulled up by our boys in blue or whatever. I have believed for some time now we'll be seeing more pipes with easily removable and reinstallable restrictors (ie 2 grub screws)as they give us the ability to stay noise reg compliant if required but also, to be a little louder if we see fit for safety reasons of course. That's the beauty of having an adjustable set of pipes as they in my case allow me the options of restrictors in or out but equally important, I now have the compliance sticker which I suspect all the law enforcement guys will be checking for. Anyway, Worse case scenario, 5 mins and your compliant again. Don't get me wrong guys, I too enjoy the sound of a deep throated pipe even if I did change from SS to the tunes, but over here we also have the Harley brigade roaring around and upsetting the masses too which I believe would have had much to do with noise reg changes.

We're in total agreement. I think one of the low points for me last year was on a group ride hearing a loud (stupid loud) pipe rider exclaim proudly, "I want him to hate me" while pointing to an unhappy guy in a soccer mom van. Just makes that guy want to muzzle all of us and that just can't be good.

Sceptre's had a second, more toned down baffle available. Maybe nobody ever ordered them. Maybe the over $600 price tag is what ultimately led to the end. Probably hard to make a sale over the past couple years.
