My wife knits, and is semi-addicted to a online forum called Ravelry. They've got sub-forums for a lot of different things, including motorcycles. One of the things she ran across is a number of them talking about knitting while riding pillion (I'd include a link but you have to have an account to even read them). I figure its probably more the land yacht goldwing, l1200lt, etc., crowd, but still!

Now, first of all, I'm pretty sure she is nowhere near that comfortable with my riding skills. But I am sure that I do not want some one sitting behind me with pointed sticks, just in case I fail to miss a pot hole, or have to brake to avoid some idiot texting their BFF, or...

I also would not be too crazy about a semi-loose ball/skein of yarn that could be dropped down into the chain, etc.

Any way, just curious - has any one ever seen anyone doing this ?

No, never seen it.

If I did, I think I'd be that gobsmacked I'd forget to look where I was going. Scary

Nope. Haven't seen any passenger knitting activity out there.
I do know a guy whom I have personally seen, use his cell phone and text while operating his snortster.

Yup, and it was a couple on a Goldwing. They were long distance riders, and she had the time.... Gotta admit, doing 6 - 8 hours in that seat would get a little boring, especially on the Interstate. I'd only be worried about the needles if the wife found out you been doin' sumpin' wrong!!!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

I have seen a goldwing pillion reading a hardback book, but never knitting.... I am not sure that I would want anyone with any kind of yarn implement behind me, I can see getting punctured as they go to grab hold for the RR tracks.

Thom I might be wrong, I sometimes am.

I also don't think yarn would do too well out in the wind but I've never ridden a goldwing so I don't know how good their windsheilds are or anything.
Can't be good enough to keep yarn under control. Don't you hate it when your yarn gets all out of control!!!

"Aye, that be true alright, me bucko! But oh what a yarn ya have to tell about it later on, right matey?!"

(BTW Mark, nope, can't say I've ever seen the knitting thing goin' on, but I DID just watch an episode on SpikeTV of "1000 Ways to Die" the other night where a girl member of a movie crew evidenty liked "getting off" on the vibrations emiting from riding on the back of her boyfriend's motorcycle at speed, and when she reached the "Big O", she lost control and fell off the back and died...sooooo, does THAT count, dude?!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Now Dwight...you know it's not National Talk Like A Pirate day today.
Everybody knows that day is Sept. 19th, every year!!!
But, without a doubt, I have to admit...that is one pretty kitty.

Funny you should mention knitting, I just ran across this online.
Have you ever heard of Guerilla Knitting?

And it was!!

But ya know, this whole knitting thing as it pertains to bikes, or at least those who ride on them who also have the urge to string yarn all tied up in knots... maybe there's something to it.

Saw someone knitting while driving on an L.A. freeway once. Not sure how they would have managed their cell phone at the same time.

I learned to knit in Novemeber -once I put the bike away for her winter's nap -on a round knitting loom and knitting boards. It's sickly addicting. So far I've knit several scarves, three hats (knit George his "shoveling hat", which he even wears), earwarmers for my 2 neices, legwarmers for my daughter, 3 pairs of fingerless gloves, and a shrug (a shawl with sleeves in case you menfolk didn't know). I'm working on the second foot of a pair of slippers, and am halfway through a kitchen dishcloth. Today I had my mother teach me and my neice how to knit on needles.....

I think I am now one of those crazy knitting ladies. Need. Riding. Weather.

Mountainman- can I make a copy of that tattoo?

Only if you pay me royalties... although the rightful owner might have a say about that!
