Since the first rally went so well, let's do it again this summer. June 24, 25, 26, 27. A lot of guys showed up on thursday last year, so I included it this year. It will be in the same area as last year, East Dubuque, IL. Across the river from Dubuque, IA and down the road from Galena, IL. I don't have the hotel finalized, but will post here as soon as I do. I'm going to try to get the same hotel as last year because of #1 price, and #2 the deck worked out so nicely as a gathering place. I am going to enlist some local help to plan 1 or 2 rides, both of which will be shorter and less boring than last year, I promise.

Questions, comments, suggestions?

Ahhh..., the best laid plans O mice and men.... I'll probably make it again. Last year's people and places were great. But that's a loooooong way out for my totally out of control schedule. I know one thing, if I go, I'm gonna bring a spare throttle cable..., "priced as marked!",

Scott, wasn't able to go last year cause I was out of work.
Now I'm back at work but won't have any vacation time till November.
Still going to bookmark it and if expenses allow I will take the time off.
Count me in as a indefinite maybe!

I think so too, however, I checked the website and they don't seem to offer the happy hour cruise anymore, just dinner cruises and sightseeing cruises. 2.5 hour dinner cruise on the big paddlewheeler is about 45 bucks, I can call and see what the group price would be if you guys are interested? Let me know.

Damien,
It's in East Dubuque, IL. just down the road from Galena, IL. Scott doesn't have the hotel nailed down yet. Basically, the very North West tip of the state.

HA! That don't scare me! I've been married for a total of 32 years. I catch h**l for breakfast! And besides, with our age difference, I don't think "forever" would be that long for me!

I really think it's a good idea to tell the boat people that Dave and I are BOTH gonna come, so they have enough chips. I really hated knocking Dave down to get the last ones.

***UPDATE***

A change in venue may be necessary. I talked to the manager at Timmerman's hotel again today. There are 2 wedding parties scheduled the same weekend we need for the rally. It's just the saturday, but still. They only have 10 rooms available. I don't think this will be enough. He was trying to work something out for us, and even contacted the wedding party to see if they really needed 50 rooms. He says they didn't want to release any rooms, but he could release them to us if they become available. I'd rather not leave that to chance. So we have to go to plan B. If we want to keep the hotel in the same ballpark as far as price, we have 2 options. Option 1, across the river in Dubuque, IA, there is a heartland inn that gave me a bid for $59 per night. Doesn't look too impressive if you ask me. There is also a Best Western that looks a lot nicer but it's 90 bucks a night. Option 2, we move the rally to LaCrosse, WI. Got a bid for 65 per night from a "biker friendly" hotel called the Brookstone Inn. I also just put in a request for bids in the Davenport, IA area, we'll see what comes up.
Let me know what you guys want to do.

The joint in La Crosse looks okay. Are there any other options left?

That adds an extra 120 miles and 3 hours on the trip from here. Means leaving early in the morning to get there at a reasonable hour Thursday. Google shows over 8 hours, so on a bike that will be almost 10.

I guess I've been out of touch for awhile....sorry...La Crosse should be a good landing spot for riding, plus, buck says....we couldn't find that boat again 2 years in a row....

We could move the date, I guess would be another option. The hotel in La Crosse is the cheapest I could find. I've never personally been to La crosse, but I hear it's nice. As far as the Dubuque area, the fairfield inn could work I guess. Galena is pricey ($100/night). I'm kind of leaning towards La Crosse myself, the wife and I may have to go on a scouting trip one of these weekends.

Moving the date would depend on how many people have put in for vacation already for those days.
I would prefer a date change and keep the place cause it was perfect but I'm also flexible in the summer.
Do whatever you need to do...it's your show, Scott.

Wow - I wouldn't have thought KC was closer to East Dubuque & La Crosse than St. Louis. Mapquest says La Crosse will add ~70 miles / 1 hour for me. Though my longest day in the saddle so far was about 265 miles, and that was 25 years ago.

I haven't been to either, so no help there.

In general I prefer to spend money on things besides hotel rooms, so the cheaper options are appealing, but I can make the budget work with any of the options.

Does anyone know about the Mines of Spain State Park? Close enough to Dubuque. Maybe they have cabins to rent onsite? I looked for a KOA and there are none in that area... just trying top think outside the box to stay relatively inexpensive and centrally located.
