What could have been, eh?
My neighbor has the original drawings for that motor in his collection. They were part of his pitch to finance and re-launch Triumph into the new millenium. I forget the exact number, but their business plan (he still that - all handwritten on ledger paper) was to buy the marque from the British government for a couple of million pounds. When they met, the price doubled and he realized the british government was just toying with them and they abandoned the idea (they could barely come up with cash they did have).
The new company would be eventually been called "Meridian". He even has a few patches leftover that they had made for the project. I'd love to have one of those, maybe one day.
He shared this info with me last Fall, when he had gathered all this info/documents to share with a writer from England. I'm not sure if the story was every published, but believe it was to be in the Triumph owners club magazine. I'll have to check with him to see if it was completed.
