The UK are up in arms today as Kraft wins bid to take over our beloved cadburys the only real chocolate you can buy. SO its going to be "kraft cream eggs" "kraft milk tray" "kraft roses" But is this a way for the yanks to get our JAFFA CAKES Hopefully there are not in the Cadburys stable

I hope they don't really change the name. Kraft eggs just don't sound eatable. Makes me think of a big egg of cheesy constipation.

Cadbury's is an insitution - in business since 1824 with a fantastic range of products - just been taken over by a company that makes garbage processed cheese slices FFS! They took over Terry's of York turned the products into mush and sold the real estate. Nestle took over Rowntrees and Kit-Kats have never been the same!

If it will help, I promise not to buy any Cadbury products. If enough of us do that, perhaps Kraft will then divest itself of the Cadbury marque much as Daimler-Benz did with Chrysler.

Don't worry Geoff, Jaffa's are safe(ish). They're made by McVities up in Leicestershire, the same county where something else we all know and love comes from

Not only do Cadbury's make great chocolate, the company actually set up a town in Bournville for it's employees which was a big thing at the time and a very important social breakthrough in employer/employee relationships. Fat chance of that happening nowadays.

It could have been worse. Imagine if they'd been bought by Spam!
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

All our brewries down under are either owned by the Japs or the Kiwi's, all our icons have been sold out, even our Beloved Holden Monaros have been rebadged in the States & called GTO'S & in the UK there called Vauxalls, is nothing sacred. We used to have a brand of matches made in Aust. called "Redheads" we lost them to a norweigan company, then a real aussie patriot called Dick Smith bought his own brand of matches out & called them "Dickheads", that's true, I still got a couple of mint condition boxes

[quote Walkers crisps?
Walkers are owned by PepsiCo Inc - I'm okay with that as they are developing the products and they don't make those processed cheese slices!!
Jaffa Cakes are owned by United Buscuits which are in turn owned by asset management company The Blackstone Group based in New York City!
So what that means is both Walkers Crisps AND Jaffa Cakes are in point of fact AMERICAN!
(...though still manufactured in the UK for the time being anyway)

You see, it all started when they sold London Bridge. Soon enough, the Tower of London, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace will all be moved to the Arizona desert. Well, it actually started when the UK government wimped out and made everyone switch to metric fasteners and money. Without inches, yards, and rods, and pence bob and quid to keep the mind sharp, the entire empire unraveled.

Probably a giant step backwards for the UK. Several years ago my entire family including my in-laws visited the town in Italy where my father in law was born and where he still has relatives. They treated us like royalty, but the biggest thing I noticed was that they walked to the market and bought fresh food for each days' meals. All of the food was delicious of course. So when I got back to the US I came to realize how much of our food is processed food and how little is actually fresh meat, vegtables, eggs, etc. When we go to the grocery store we come home with a bunch of food in cans, boxes, plastic, microwaveable containers, etc. Really kind of F'ed up when you think about it. No wonder the French and Italians can drink wine and eat so well, while still outliving us Americans by decades.

HANG ON A MINUTE...we still have lbs (they are trying the old kgs on us but we are hanging on in there), we have miles (don't even try them kilometers on us co it's just way tooo loong a word), we still have the Great British Pound £ (ok only just and the Euro will come to pass sometime soon). So you see we still have some dignity left!
You on the otherhand have pinched our chocolate, crisps and Jaffa Cakes (that was particularly sneaky using a middle man and all). You are even taking STRETCHERMOKEY from us!!
It won't be long before Hardley put buy Triumph - you watch!

Not just yet Ivan.
It looks more likely that we are at least going to be over here for the summer on account that it is probably not the best time to move.

Okay Ivan, at present count that now makes TWO less than glowing references to "Kraft Singles", aka "American Cheese", which you have posted in this ongoing lament of a thread. Now, while I agree with you that this afforementioned product doesn't come even close to being a world class "cheese"(for want of a better description), I feel it is my "patriotic duty" to at least defend its use in the making of the absolutely BEST TASTING grilled "cheese" sandwiches in which one can bite into!!! (but yeah, for every other use it IS absolute CRAP alright, dude!!!)

Is that all kraft are known for " single cheese "
Well Geoff, they WERE also known for sponsoring "The Perry Como Show" back in the day TOO, ya know!!!
(okay, okay...maybe you didn't know that 'cuz you're either too young to know who Perry Como was, and/OR 'cuz he didn't appear on your "telly" over there "back in the day"!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

The "The Perry Como Show" didnt he wear nice cardigans. that was in the black and white era of tv I think. So they dont sponsor no grid Iron / Baseball games or own a team. seem to me they are a " B " list company. But with cadburys the will become an " A " list company atb geoff

Right you are, ol' boy! Yep, the dude was known for his cardigan sweaters alright, and of course his smooooth croonin' voice! And I think you're also right about Kraft not sponsoring nor owning any pro sports team too, BUT I can't be sure about THAT because as you know(or at least NOW know with this latest acquisition by them of your beloved Cadbury company over there), WHO the H*LL knows WHO really owns ANYTHING out there ANYMORE, right???!!!
