First of all - a warm welcome to the forum.
I think you'll find all that have posted on here are in full support of the run.
All brothers (and sisters) on here mate.

Anyone setting off from the Milton Keynes area and fancy riding in together? The bigger the pack, the more people to blame for getting lost

Ray,I'm heading down Sat evening, kipping on my ex's sofa. You fancy meeting up to ride to WB together? I might have a one-legged despatch rider with me, so we could blame him if we get lost

Hi Bryn I am heading to your neck of the woods and stopping the night with Mark (British Steel) and his good lady in Milton Keynes......
I also believe that the route has changed so if anyone hears any news on the meeting place post it on here. I believe that over 14,000 have signed up for this run...

From the FB Group... Quote:
Update!: Monday 8th February 2010 2030
After the meeting today with the authorities and the unprecedented response from the biking community we have been asked to close registration one week early. It will unfortunately NOT be re-opening.
We would like to reassure everyone that the ride IS GOING AHEAD WITH the FULL support of the police and local authorities. We have spoken to a few local businesses who are all looking forward to the day. ALL bikes will be riding through Wootton Bassett no matter what you may have heard.
Plan details re: routes, times, wristbands, will be made available in document format soon. We have another meeting with the police next week to discuss the finer details. We can confirm that we will NOT be riding on any stretches of the motorway.
We would like to apologise to anybody who has not registered however wanted to join us, we thank everybody for their patience and support.
Thank you for your patience!
Lizzie, Daniel & Julia

Hi Ray, I'm not from MK either, so I don't know much of the area, but if you want to meet up, get Mark to suggest a place aand I'm sure my despatch buddy (who does live in MK) will find it, although anyway near Tattenhoe would be ok for me

I should arrive in MK around 4 - 5pm, so will just probably follow Marks instructions to his house Bryn. We can arrange to meet up on the Saturday at Hullavington Airfield, will PM you my number....

I have just received an email saying you have to book an arrival time ( presumably because of the numbers involved) - What time are others looking at arriving?

I've booked to arrive 12-1. Planning on leaving MK about 9:30 If it doesn't seem like I've allowed enough time, or have allowed far too much time, please let me know. I'm not from MK so I don't know how long to allow for the journey. The reason I'm starting from MK is that is where my kid lives and she's coming too

I don't know what plans you all have following the ride ,I thought some might like to meet in the "Bug & spider" pub in Calne for a drink and chat. Accomodation is also available for anyone wishing to stay over...(check availability)http://www.bugandspider.co.uk/ Just a thought....

Other than I was tired and the bike has issues - but that's another story - it was a good day. Strange maybe. Tingles down my spine when riding down the high street. Thoughts of the hearses driving down the street and the sadness, but they're cheering us and saying thank you to us saying thank you.
I was supposed to be with the Bristol TOMCC guys. But wasn't. But in all the people there found Andy, Ian and Paul... and some others. But I'm crap at names.

Here is Paul (Babrat), his Camp Bastion cap and his ride ready for Wootton Bassett. Well we made the effort and thankfully the weather was kind. Paul made an impressive 500 mile round trip and it was only 400 for me but it was worth every inch. The numbers were limited (they say 15,000 but no one checked my ticket so who knows) and there could have been many many more. So off we went two by two orderly and respectful to show support for the Afghan Hero’s and the good people of Wootton Bassett. Along the way the roads were lined in the Wiltshire villages with people waving Union Jacks, the very young and very old together in a show of support for the Hero’s. And in that wonderful town of Wootton Bassett, the high street was packed and I wanted to thank each and every one of them but had to be content with the occasional had slap as we rode along. No words or pictures can do it justice nor can my little 400 mile token of support but it was worth it just the same. As ever Paul, your company was excellent mate – thanks!!

Fantastic day, extremely well organised considering it was only an idea 3 months ago and the amount of people attending I will get photos up towards the weekend when the films developed so you can see if you recognise yourselves (if I got a picture of you) Thank you Gina for bringing this to my/our attention in the first place , sorry I never saw you or Shaun

I thought it was a brilliant day. Very emotional at times, superb support from the public. Only a 300 mile round trip for me, although with my new leather bad-a$$ seat, I knew I'd done it by the time I got home. Bumped into Paul albeit very briefly and a.n other who's name escapes me (sorry, I'm cr*p at names as well!) Apologies for not making the pub, I figured if I got in there, got warm and had a pint I wouldn't want to leave! I even made it onto the Afghan Heroes Facebook page!!!

It certainly looked a good event and the weather looked good too and there was a lot of good news coverage of it as well, although I didnt see anyone I recognised.
I think a big well done to those who turned up and the organisers is in order.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"
