Got this as a link through Facebook

Quote:

Sunday 14th March 2010

The ride will be starting at Leigh Delamere Service Station J17 (eastbound) of the M4. Please start arriving from 10:30am.

Each rider will pay £5 and receive an Afghan Heroes wristband, which will be their entry pass to RAF Lyneham. The lead riders will be leaving at 12 noon promptly. The route will be along the M4 to J16 before heading along the A-Roads towards Wootton Bassett. We will be riding through at a slow speed before continuing along to RAF Lyneham. We are honored that they are opening their gates for us and refreshments will be available.

All those attending RAF Lyneham will require to pre register giving Name, Address, DOB and Bike Registration. This is to enable security clearance to be carried out by the RAF. REGISTRATION CLOSES MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2010. Anyone who does not register WILL NOT be allowed onto RAF Lyneham.

Registration will be through a secure site, this will be posted out on Monday.

We will be riding to RAF Lyneham where there will be a presentation to hand over the funds raised for the Afghan Heroes Charity, set up last September by a group of mothers who lost their sons in Afghanistan.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANY BIKERS WHO WISH TO ATTEND THE RIDE WHO HAVEN’T REGISTERED ON FACEBOOK CAN YOU ENSURE THAT THEY REGISTER ON THE SECURE SITE.

The above listed secure site isn't up yet... but I'll add it once it is.

the Facebook group is at : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=231770155035

If you are going go to the event page on the group or register through the secure site - once it's open.
Those who are on my facebook I've sent the link.

Bristol TOMCC are going... so I am.

There's a meet at Aust Services at 10 am, but BTOMCC are possibly gonna make their own way there, not sure yet. I think a group are coming from the Ace, but there's details on the FB group. If you're not on FB, then I (or someone else) can get the details for you.

It's NOT a political run, just a run to say thanks to Wootton Bassett for their support of the troops and raise money for the Afghan Heroes.

Any takers?

I have signed up to show support, but will be unable to say if I will be going until I know what I am working. Seem to be having lots of weekends off at moment so here's hoping.

Not political? Yeahhhhhh surrrre. If the BNP didn't highlight this event then they are definetly missing a trick.

Having said that I might pop along for a look if I'm not working.

What happens if they upscale operations at RAF lyneham or a funeral procession is planned through the town?

If you come via Milton Keynes Ray these's a space in the garage for the bike and if you don't mind dossing down in the lounge your welcome to stay here.

Hi Gina, I will attend this event, subject to me returning from Afghanistan at the end of February. I work on medical equipment at two of the military Hospitals out here, so this subject is close to my heart.

It's stressed it's not a political thing. On the FB page it's stressed any political or racist posts will be deleted.

Can't answer that one, but as far as I'm aware (and remember I get this on the local news too) there's been no repatriations on a Sunday.

And remember I'm not the organiser. I'm organising the run for it for Bristol TOMCC as I know there are guys who'd want to go. Including me.

I just thought some of you on here would want to know, and passing on the info.

When I click on the link G, it states there is £5.00 to pay to get into RAF Lyneham, but when you click on the link on the page and pay through Paypal, the charge is only £2.50

Confusing or what...... Does anyone know what to do, or will they be available on the day ????????????????????

It's pay on the day.

The registration is to allow checks to get in to Lyneham

i have signed up for this and fully intend going i have booked day of work.
as yet i have had aknowledgement of application but not a number yet but i expect they busy just checked so far 7433 bikes registered to inc 10262 riders/pillions so it is going to be a busy day.
hopefully i can clear a little confusion up the bands you can buy on the afghanheroes site are in support of the troops but anyone attending on the day will get a unique band which needs to be paid for on the day as it will be your pass to get into RAF Lynham

I can't get my shift changed at the moment so it looks like a no show from me.

It should be a good turnout though. I don't think the organisers could have expected such a response from the motorcycling community.

Hope you all have a good day!

DUE TO THE FACT THAT SO MANY BIKERS HAVE REGISTERED, AND,AS YOU CAN
IMAGINE WOOTTON BASSETT IS A VERY SMALL TOWN, THE AREA SIMPLY CANNOT TAKE ANYMORE THAN THE 22MILES OF BIKES THAT HAVE REGISTERED TO RIDE THROUGH.

WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK THOSE THAT HAVE NOT REGISTERED, TO BE PATIENT WHILST WE MAY BE ABLE TO ...FIND OTHER SOLUTIONS FOR YOU TO STILL COME ALONG TO THIS EVENT, BUT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RIDE THROUGH WOOTTON BASSETT ON THE ORGANIZED RIDE.

THIS ALL TAKES TIME. WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE CORRECT CHANNELS....AND WE ARE WAITING NOW FOR CONFIRMATION.
WE HOPE YOU ALL UNDERSTAND NOW.THIS RIDE IS SO BIG AND YOUR SAFTEY IS MOST IMPORTANT TO US, WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE BE PATIENT.
Update
After meeting with the police and authorities, the Wootton Bassett Ride organisers have asked us to relay the following info:

Due to the unprecedented response from the biking community and with 10k bikes registered, we have been asked to close registration one week early. Unfortunately it will NOT be re-opening.

We would like to reassure everyone that the ride IS GOING AHEAD WITH the FULL support of the police and local authorities. We have spoken to a few local businesses who are all looking forward to the day. ALL bikes will be riding through Wootton Bassett no matter what you may have heard.

Plan details re: start/end locations, routes, times, wristbands, will be made available in document format as soon as they are confirmed. We have another meeting with the police next week to discuss the finer details. We can confirm, however, that we will NOT be riding on any stretches of the motorway.

We would like to apologise to anybody who has not registered however wanted to join us, we thank everybody for their patience and support.

Thank you for supporting Afghan Heroes
