In my experience it was a bit more work than this to fit the throttle sleeve. Removing the ribs as described above was not sufficient by a long shot. About 1 to 2mm need to be ground off the stock plastic throttle sleeve as well to get a very tight fit. I used a dremmel and sandpaper to finish off. Soap was required to get the new grip on and was so tight that no glue was necessary.
Also - you don't need to cut the stock grip off. I managed to peel it back on itself (turning it inside out in the process). That way you can re-install if you wanted to - however you would need to pack you ground-down sleeve with something.
