My new Procomm CDI just arrived! Good thing too, because I rode home from school today on one cylinder! What timing!
The installation is easy, but you do have to reuse the mounting bracket and those weird plastic fasteners that come on the stock CDI.

The standard map is very close to stock.
On Wesley from Procomm's advice I altered the timing to:
0-2Krpm no change
2K-5K +2.5 degree advanced
5K-7K +3.5 degree
7K-9.5K(!) +2 degree
The software is developed for EFI bikes as well, so the only
parts we can use are ignition timing to rpm ,TPS to rpm, and
rev limiter. But it's not recommended that we set it above 9500rpm.

It runs like a bandit! Strong pickup, nice roll-on power, and it keeps on pulling. The rev limiter is set at 9500,
I ran it to 8400 and the power didn't taper off.
Methinks I like this.

Arrrggghhhh cant wait now to get mine.. BrianT, 8400 RPM!!! you mad m0f0 LOL, I intend upping my max rpm to 8000 as my bike cuts out completely if I hit the limiter at 7500 rpm, scary crap just when you need it to be running.

Also, I have my TPS disconnected, should I reconnect it do you think?

Do you think its worth me hosting a MAP share on my PC? like somewhere we can all go to get and share custom maps?

Try it with and without the TPS to determine if you want it.

Great news indeed.

God that's freaking awesome... I really want one too. I was keeping up with the other thread about these but never saw(or missed it) anything about continued availability. Are these going to be built in limited numbers or is there time to wait??????????

Cost to UK is $228 shipped, expect about another $60 on import duties and postal costs but still better than a Triumph one.

Two bills for a brand new CDI begs the question of used CDI pricing. Seems to me that used CDI prices should fall to 50 bucks.

Should be more like 25.
The only reason they were worth anything is there was no alternative.

Well, how does your motorsickle run with procom's CDI? I'll be installing mine today on Cinnamon Girl. And you're correct about the Vista BS. To reprogram I'll need the office puter. Or create a bootable XP partition on my home Vista Laptop. grrr

Here is a picture of Brian's (BrianT) remap...

It's been a while since I went Mac but I'm surprised that Vista doesn't offer the same legacy mode that XP does when you install an older design program. In XP you used to be able to right click on the install file and spec run in Win98 mode and then do the same to the .exe file which gave you a legacy operating mode. Did they remove this feature in Vista or is it just undocumented?

I see Moe posted my map. It works great. The roll-on response is fantastic. The 9500rpm rev limiter feels weird, though. I haven't run it past 8300, and normally I stay below 7500.

EEEEEK!!! 8300 RPM.. scary stuff man, I intend on raising mine to 8000 max, I normally hit the limiter about 7500 and only need a few extra as thats just as I gear change..

I really need to research the mapping and what Im actually doing, dont want to overkill it.

Might fit mine this week all being well.

When I replaced my igniter I used 2 cable ties through each hole.

Works great and they came straight out of my toolbox.

I used a flat blade screwdriver and pried the old one apart.
Slip the blade between the bracket and the CDI and twist.
Tap the bracket straight with a hammer(if needed).
Reused it with no problems. Cost 11 curse words and some
elbow grease.

So Brian, Sounds like your feeling a seat of the pants improvement in rideability and power with the procomm unit installed on your 03? I would consider picking up one myself if I thought it would make a noticeable difference on an 865 motor. BTW, I'm going to be down in Lauderdale at the end of next week. Let me know if you want to grab a beer or anything.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Vista champion but, I've got Vista Ultimate on my Sony VAIO and had no problems with the driver or software that came with my Procom CDI. Its the same version that is on the web site. As long as you install your driver software before you connect you CDI to the computer you should have no problems with Vista. Maybe you got some other issues with your system.

I downloaded the map from procom's site and used it and it works great. Vast improvement over the stock setup. The default rev limit is 9000 so I'll probalbly cut it back to 8500.

I was hoping you guys might have some insight on timing and spark advance ranges. Anybody?

Got my igniter bracket and barbs today. Thought I was ordered some spare barbs. Turns out these interlock onto each other. So four is really two attachment points.

Not a problem. I've been doin computers, mainly PCs since 91. Mostly home and small network stuff. But am happy to think through any issue you may be having with your computers.

Any thoughts on timing? Or, how many degrees before top dead center is a good place to start? And, at what RPM should the advance kick in? However, with the flexibilty of the programmable CDI, we should be able to plot a curve that would reflect each 100RPM or so. what do you engine gurus think?

Anyway, I'm studying some theory and trying to remember what I used to do to my old 73 bonny a few years back. I think with the brain trust on this site we should be able to come up with some really nice maps to share with each other.
