The map I use follows Procom's baseline up to 2krpm.
Then it advances +2.5 degrees until 5k, where it changes to +3.5.
Maintain +3.5 until 7k, then change to +2 at 7.1k.
Hold that until 9.5k.
I entered map coordinates every 500rpm, exept at the 7000-7100
change point. You can map every 100rpm if you want.
This gives noticeable improvement in roll-ons,
at 4-5000rpm the pickup is sweet.
One last thing, I was in a hurry the other day, needed gas,
and the station was out of everything but 87 octane, so
I used it. NO PINGING! This with my typical heavy throttle hand.
I also noticed an increase in mpg from 33-37mpg, but I need
more testing to see if that result is consistent.

Just got back from a ride. Cinnamon Girl is real flat from 1000 to 2900rpm. Then she kicks butt to an rpm round 5k. She started right up with the tank off. Then she didn't want to start. Could have been the temperature drop and dry carbs. But she started and dang if she didn't run like she was lean. Once she warmed up she was alright given the notes above. I'm going to load Brian's map. and take her for another spin.

BRIAN!

Thanks for the update.

Given your Timing Alternative 1 map, and Procom's CMTBS-01 (bottom of page) map, and your review, I'll be sending yours to the cdi. The CMTBS-01 map is basically yours but with no 500 rpm points.

Uploaded Timing Alternative 1 with rev limit set to 9500 - 1000 = 8500. ISB cable allowed me to connect lap top without any moving stuff around.

8:00 P.M. Summary 50 degrees F
Four 6 mile runs. + 1

1. Timing Alternative 1
2. CMTBSA-01
3. Timing Alternative 1
4. 0-Default
5. Timing Alternative 1 - 1/2 mile was all I needed

Run 4 was noticibly flat in the low rev range. Almost wanted to stumble when >4.5K.

Runs 1,2,3 where more a matter of FUN than trying to decide which map was betterer.
Run 5 meant confirmation of Procom's CDI running BrianT's map as soon as I rounded the first corner, as I u-turned to go home and catch up on the brewskis.

Procom CDI? So far I likey!

Do you have TPS connected? any other MODS that would have an influence on the cdi performance?

I want to collate as much data as possible so when others (ME!) put theirs on they have a good starting point.

Cheers,

The Throttle position sensor is in place. No other mods that would have a bearing on the CDI setup.

HOWEVER: She is real hard to start. Don't know what is up with that. Once she starts, all is well. She was hard to start at the default map. Only this morning did I notice she was hard to start on the Timing Alternative 1 map (As last night she never got cold between maps). I'll install the oem cdi and fire her up cold either Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

What was the outcome of the starting issue? I have just put mine on and man was it hard to start.... letting it cool down and going to try again, if it is still hard to start I intend on calling Wes and see what he has to say.

That's a worry.

I put mine on last week and it wouldn't start at all, but it has been standing for a few weeks

Haven't had time to check it out since, so I'm definitely interested in what you find.

Mine's a standard setup just the AI removed and my old CDI unit's stuffed so I can't try with that

tipntricks

No choke or fuel. Engage starter, then pull choke about half way. Had a friend ride Cinnamon Girl this past Monday. I started her. No problems. With the procom cdi, you have to learn how to start her again. I am on Vera Lynn now. Guess its time to switch off eh? As I want to finish dialing CG in and swap the cdi out to get a better feel of procom vs gill.

Speaking of start me up reminds me of this lass' daddy.

Two quick questions:
Has anyone else noticed mpg improvement?
Anyone else changed to 87 octane?
