That's what I ended up doing and haven't had a problem with forgetting keys lately, but I still don't like them dangling 16 inches above the highway, back where I can't see them.

I can make it so it doesn't draw any more current than a clock when the bike is parked. Even my cheesy battery can handle that for a season, and for the off-season I'll disconnect it. I already remove the 2-way radio for the winter, so pulling one more plug won't hurt anything.
