Apparently, the dealer in Central New York is in dire straits. No, not into the band. I opened a letter from them saying they were looking for donations to keep them afloat, as they have tried other routes thru the gov't and banks and no one wants to loan them anything. I didn't see any other posts on here about it. Anyone know of any shops closing near them of any type of bikes?

I stopped by Destiny last week, on my way back to MD. Seemed like nice guys. Showroom is small, but stuffed full. They even had a T-bird demo bike. Unfortunately the temp was 15 degrees with lake effect snow, so no ride for me. I hope they weren't the dealer in question.

I heard the Spokane, WA, dealership, barely a year old, closed up shop a couple months ago. That's too bad because they were very nice and delivered really good customer service.
The Missoula, MT, dealership has significantly tightened their belt and is running a skeleton crew, but hanging in there.

Its tough all over. Stopped at Bogart's in Birmingham when we were up there, They had the A/C off and a skeleton crew in the showroom. Local dealer here wants to sell me a Sprint at cost to get out from under the finance charge every month. Said to tell my friends. Obama needs to get off the motorcycle money...never mind, it would all go to HD and maybe Polaris.

Well yes and no. After the snow king wiped out, Destination Daytona dropped the Trumpet line. Well it seems BMW Daytona has it now and they are starting out in the stratosphere. For example, BMW Daytona is offering a center-stand for sale on fleabay. Starting bid with shipping is $322.15. FastEddySports has it for $260.00 delivered. Mark another dealership destined to hurt real soon. Destined. harhar I almost crack myself up.

Pure-Triumph in Lauderdale went belly-up and got bought by the company that bought out the guy in Boynton Beach.
Now that was a nice dealership and in 06-07 was in the top 10% for sales with Triumph.
Kinda confuses me when in another thread a rumor indicates Triumph increased sales.
Ian and Martyn were really hard working guys down there on Route 1. Too bad they didn't make it.

I have trouble with the hole post "luvdemstillers" say he got a letter from a dealer "but does not say what one"..
say their looking for for donations to keep them afloat sounds very suspicious...
then goes on to ask...Anyone know of any shops closing near them of any type of bikes?..... once again I have to ask didn't the letter say who and what kind of dealer it was..
sound like one big scam letter to me..

At the bottom of the Destiny website is a You Tube vid of their marching band. I might send money to get them to quit playing.

I didn't think it mattered if I named the dealer. I have no reason to fabricate anything if that was implied, nor is it a scam. They are good people. I have been on comp since Oct of 08, so I haven't been there lately. Here's the letter:
Dear Friends, Thanks for taking the time to read our request. We are asking you to consider an act of random kindness. We need your help and we truly need it right now! Please help us! The banks have said no to helping anyone in the motorsports business and that means us! Since the fall of 2008 the economy has been devastating to the motorcycle industry and we were not immune. The supposed economic turnaround is slow and has not been quick enough to save the thousands of bike shops that have closed; six shops in Central New York alone. We need to raise capital to stay in operation and not be included in the list of shops closing each and every day. We are riders. You are riders. We hope you understand as we do the importance of continuing the "customer always comes first" unprecedented and and unique experience provided by Destiny Motorsports. You do and will always come first, without exception. Whether it's a simple inspection without a hassle, picking up a stranger and his bike in the middle of the night in the Adirondack Park or assisting someone who has gone down; we do our best to be ready willing and able to drop everything to help a friend in trouble. We truly don't know any other shop which goes to the lengths we do to help our fellow riders. Now we unfortunately need some help from you. The bottom line is simple; we need funding to hang on. We have gone to Solvay Bank, M&T Bank and for those who know him all too well; the Chief wrote our Congressman, Senators, the SBA and even three letters to President Obama, all of whom flat out refuse to even consider a loan to a motorcycle business. We are regular people; a small family business not the chosen few Big Shooters, the government is bailing out. There is absolutely no help for the little guy. So who do we turn to for help-you, our friends and loyal customers? Would you please be willing to give us a temporary loan or a donation? We realize times are tough; anything you could do would be deeply appreciated. With your loan or donation we will be able to carry on the tradition of bikers helping fellow bikers; you're our priority. We are grateful for whatever you have to offer whether it is a $20.00 donation or a $20,000.00 loan. We will repay any loan we receive. Many customers have asked about stock in the company and we are willing to do that too. Please don't let us down; you can really make a difference. We also are not foolish, we willingly ask for any other ideas or thoughts you might have which could help us raise capital. You can simply send a check or money order to us or for your convenience call and use your credit card. Upon receipt of your assistance we will promptly reply with a letter verifying your contribution. With your help we will get through this tough time and as always, be here to help you. If you have any questions please feel free to call us. Thank you so much for your consideration and for being part of our dream. On behalf of all of us at Destiny, THANK YOU! ERICH, JERRY, GARY, WALSHY and CHIEF

Looks like they got their shop open because another Triumph dealer went under 3 or so years ago. Its a tough business especially in a cold area of the state.

The dealer here in Norfolk is feeling it. They got a good base of riders that cycle through the shop for maint. and such, but the showroom floor just isn't moving like they need it to.

Sales were down for every thing in 09, so it's no suprise that many retail outlets will go belly up in 10. The dealers that survive will be the older ones that have weathered this kind of storm before. They tend to have a wider and deeper customer base. They have also always been run lean and mean. Baxter and Engles come to mind, they sell bikes to folks from all over the US. But, in this economic climate who knows?

There was a dealer on the south side of Syracuse that kind of folded into the present ownership for whatever reasons. It is obviously for the better. I am not in the greatest of finacial shape myself, but I have inquired about the 900 kit. Maybe they can do it this year. I just can't deliver. Either that or rims and tires for the truck. For the mother country! Long live the (Mc)Queen! Speaking of whom, I will put a link on other bikes for an auction for you buffs.
