Has anyone used "mini ape" handle bars? If so, where did you get them, and to save time, what were the specs for the new cables? I saw a post about where to get the cables, but just wanted to know how long they should be.

Thanks in advance,
Jason

I don't know what they are called for sure. They are the ape hanger bars, but aren't as tall.

I guess you could call them buckhorns also?

Here's mine:

Or is this not what you are talking about?

Here's a thread that leads to other threads. Check them out.

btw, I have Jim's Spacers under my risers and then the buckhorns on top of those. I had to change to 4" over on the brake line and clutch cable. No change other than re-routing of the throttle cables.

Others who have not used the spacers were able to use all stock cables...

Here's a good thread talking about apes and buckhorns.

Kind of strange pulling that one up on g
Google, because normally you can't go back that far just by using the search function through this site.

Sorry for my previous post. That was supposed to be humor.

A buckhorn you can use is Harley part #56081-82A

I believe price is somewhere between 25 and 35

You must be talking about Baby Apes. I went with the Buckhorns instead. I was able to use my stock cables and wiring and I liked the riding position better.

I put mini apes on mine within about 6 months of getting it - back in 2002 - before I knew about you all!!!!
My dealer did the switch over, extended cables, wiring and put a braided steel brake line in. I would have to go back thru my paperwork to find the specs on the bars. I actually bought the bars thru the HD dealer, but they arent HD brand bars, I think they are Flanders brand - I think they cost me $70, plus the work. I had been searching for a while to find ones that would fit the bike and work for me - when I found these, I didn't care what it cost at the time. I find them much more comfortable than the stock bars - which were just too wide for me. One of these years I'll maybe post some pictures.

You mean like this?

From our Grand Canyon ride with Ben. Did a little cropping and resizing to get these.

Gday mate, I run 16 inch apes on stock risers on my America I had a new Brake line made and will one day have to get a longer clutch cable but that was/is all does it look good? Everyone says it looks brilliant and should have came out that way. Affect the handling? Took a bit to get used to having the hands that high and i believe it does affect the handling if you push hard into a corner, but then I know it so ride acoordingly
