I travel frequently and train with LE officers all over the U.S. GPS units are the #1 item stolen from vehicles. Leaving anything like that where it can be seen is asking for trouble. Breaking a $200 window to steal a $200 unit is 1 thing, but then they also take whatever else may be concealed in the vehicle (guns, cash, other electronics, etc.). I carry a backpack in the trunk and take everything valuable with me into the hotel every night.
