Howz 'bout it Dwight? Any dates yet? Time to start planning and putting in vacation requests etc.
May 10 is Mother's day (if that's an issue for anyone). May 31 is Memorial Day.

Isn't the 3rd week of May always the transition point of good and bad weather up in mountains. Wouldn't June be better or it just too darn hot then.

Yep Ron, usually by June it starts gettin' pretty warm down around Wickenburg and the lower elevations, and that's kind'a why I always held the rally in May. I think last year's weather with those extreme low pressure cells was pretty much an anomaly, but ya never know, ya know. However, the idea I was kind'a kickin' around for this year was maybe moving the rally up a few weeks to start Friday April 30th and end Sunday May 2nd, so that it could include the SWTF attendees goin' to the first ever AMA-sanctioned Pro Mile Flat Track races to be run that Saturday May 1st at the Yavapai Downs Fairgrounds, where the world's oldest rodeo takes place every year. You folks who have come to the SWTF before might remember seeing this venue along Hwy 89A on the way to Jerome and just before you begin the climb up and over Mingus Mountain. I was thinking of putting this idea up for a vote, because I'm wonderin' if moving the dates up to include this race might either increase the turnout for this year's rally or somehow inhibit it. So folks, whatcha think about this idea?! Don't be shy now. I'd really like to hear from any and all those interested in attending this year's SWTF if you think this is a good idea, or as I mentioned above, if moving the dates forward a few weeks might somehow cause you to miss the rally. (thanks all!!!)

Might inhibit me completely. But might throw bike in the Dakota if the roads/weather still sucks.

Sounds good Dwight, AmyLee and I are making plans to attend this year if work permits. So, if the Flat track races are on Saturday, I take it, the bike run would either be Friday or Sunday. I was also wondering if you might consider a memorial run for Derek, sort of like the Cambria Presidents group did for Scott. See Ya. Bob '04 TBA & '97 Trophy

Excellent idea, Bob! Yep, I've also been thinking of some way we could honor Derek's memory in that manner or maybe some other way this year! Judie and I were in Tucson recently and were able to meet up with Derek's wife Linda, and she told us she's planning on attending this year, BTW. And I'm glad to hear that you and AmyLee are planning on comin' again!!!

Sounds like you think it'll still kind'a cold and wet up that way even at the end of April for this trip down, huh John?
Well, any ol' way you can it make down to the rally(truckin' it or not) would be fine by us!

All I can say is, "it depends." The weather has been weird this year. It could be clear and sunny on April 30th or we could have 2ft of snow.

You could leave the truck in Vegas and ride with me (us if Bill P. can make it).
My usual gas stops will meet your needs also, longest stretch 100 miles.

Hmmm...I'm planning another cross-country road trip...this time it'll be 2-3 weeks and in that general direction, but probably not till later in May or early June...all depends when the mining machines hole thru.

I think 07 and 08 was when I was there and remember both times you and Becky talking about snow a few weeks earlier. Last year the rain was so severe it literally stopped me in my tracks 450 miles out.
The continental divide after the meet 08 was 33º and snowing, then raining for 300 miles.
It appears, once you get that high up there is not one way to know how it will be. Lets do the flat track deal.

When I rode down in 2008 it was snowing over Monida Pass (MT-ID border of I-15). That was fun.

My 2 cents - the weather in June can get too warm down below and as we always seem to ride down to Wickenburg.... I mean I moved up from the lower elevations so I wouldn't have to ride in the heat! I already have a conflict with the April 30-May 1 weekend - I will be in Reno. I still like the mid-May weekend. I like the idea of some sort of memorial run for Derek - which in my experience would entail riding down Hwy 89 and Yarnell Hill!!!! So I have piped in..... Glad to see everyone's plans to attend!!!! Hope to see you all. Dwight, let me know what I can do to assist. Becky PS - just found the AMA flat track schedule, and they will also be at Yavapai Downs Oct 9-10; short track and mile.....just an FYI

I'm up for it, in my neck of the woods it seems (NorCal). Appreciate any details as this would be my first attending - if it's open invite to group. Where do you meet up, lodge, etc..?
THANKS!
>> OK, see other string which is newer, back on for Apr 30-May 1 now and flat track?
