so my question is:
How many of you guys have bought yourself one of these to replace the stock unit as a pre-emptive decision based on past performance stats ie. leaving you broke down or some such AND / OR, the procom cdi also offers other features?
They told me I could buy one for $200aud shipped but considering nothing has happened to the my stock unit, so why would I fork out for something that's not broke yet?
You know, if it's not broke why fix it?
Just interested in your thoughts on this one?
Cheers staffo
My thought would be, if your gonna get it, install it! Keep the stock one for a spare, cause my experiance with electrical stuff is, if it doesn't keep current running through it, it would (could) become contaminated (corroded)or just weak, and not be "up to snuff" months or years latter when needed.
And you may see me tonight

Hi all, I'll probably regret saying this cos by doing so I'll probably now get myself an electrical issue.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who had a better understanding of electrics with our bikes ( I got a Z- at school. You???) would agree the savage North American and European winters play havoc with electrics. I say this cos I live in a fairly dry, non Coastal area that encourages riding year round. Wouldn't this play a part in keeping my electrics fairly free from corrosion and less likely to stuff up?
Just thinking how bad the remnants of wet salty roads must have on damaging electrics as just one example.
Any opinions? Just interested from a broad perspective.

Question: On a carbureted bike, am I correct in thinking that the "Fuel vs. XXXX" functions don't do anything? I mean, the only way to control the amount of fuel going into the engine is by rejetting, right? So the only thing you'd be able to control with this is the spark advance and the rev limit?

If she's gonna break down.. and man made.. Bet she will.. nothing like taking her home.. checking out the problem. pulling the spare's out and getting back to riding .. A.S.A.P. greatly prefered to a month of down time ... rode Nortons for years..and have been slowly ..carefully gathering spares for our commando's .. some needed ..some not. now .. i have to joy of cleaning out the shop and passing along the goodies to the commando riders.. as I find myself looking for spares for my Speedy .. She's going to be around for a long long time..

Hey, This is my first time to post here, but been reading here for years. My Bonnie is a 06 America with 790 I bought new it has 16,000 on it. I've not had any major problems till this Saturday, on the way home from 200 mile trip I lost the right cylinder. It was super hot Saturday near 100. I started limping in on left cylinder and after a few miles right side took off like normal for about 10 miles then I lost right cylinder again. I made it in with one cylinder, then after it sat for a little while it started right up as nothing was wrong. Does it sound like the CDI could be causing this? Second is there anyone using the Procom CDI that could tell me if it works OK? Thanks, Paul

Theres quite a few of us using the Procom, IMO its the best "extra" Ive bought.. bike really flies. I wonder if your issue is heat related, might be a coil breaking down when really hot. It would surprise me if the CDI getting hot is the issue.. but then, electrics is such a tempermental woman who knows

Maybe this will help. http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triumph-twin-igniter-info.php
It's not a complete list, if anyone has a different part number on their bike, mail me with model and year and I'll update the list. Cheers.
Pieman, I have a 2004 america and the CDI part listed on triumphtwinpower is 1292060, I just pulled mine and looked and it said 1291100. At first I was like WTF I have a 2002? But I went and check the registration and it also says 2004, Thought my memory was going for a sec.
