even if it fails at twice the rate you are still ahead. Plus you can program your map without a dealer.

I ordered one today after talking to Wesley Zhou. Lowdown from scribbled notes: Only good for Carburetor motorsickles while the fuel injected ignitors are in R&D. This unit is good for 7 of 9 Triumph CDI Part Numbers. 7 of 9: eye candy This new CDI is good for most all the naturally aspirated 360 and 270 engines. That blue wheel has 0-9 positions. positions 0,8,9 are empty (for future use) Positions 1 through 7 are available. This means that this unit will be produced instead of the current Triumph parallel twin 360 procomm CDI's. My bonnevilleamericas will use blue wheel position '4'.

Only twice? I was quoted $700 by a dealer for a new CDI last July.

That's what it looks like to me. I was told this is a limited test market run on production, with limited quantities but more to come in the future, so the website isn't updated. I have an email to him right now about possible performance gains by remap and rev limit raise.

Get the word out on the other websites. The greater the demand, the more they will produce.
Dave, Where did you get the pics. Did you purchase one already?

I got mine! Well, I just ordered it anyway. Am I the first one? About that CD, you can reprogram the box any way you want. The rev limiter can be set up to 9500rpm! I think I'll start out at 8000. By the way, the warranty is 12 months.

um well, let's see, hum... ...NO!
But you should have been as I never sent an email out. How about that Brian? The first two intended uses for 270 cranks sales are in Florida! Orders placed in 40 degree F temps too. No wonder why the yanks haven't ordered yet, 4 months of the warranty would be POOF before those beer drinking cabin fever lads get to warm it up.
Mr. Zhou said these units had been tested on third party bikes. With no problems. Finally, we have an alternative other than the poppy fields of Triumph’s Gill cartel.

Thumbs up to Procom for making this happen. Thumbs up to those who sent the emails.
Mr. Zhou is the CEO of the company. It's reported they have well over 200 employees. The fact that he will take 20 minutes of his time to talk to one client who will likely buy but one unit speaks volumes about the way he values a customer.
I don't recall the CEOs of Gill or Triumph doing the same for us. Maybe it's my failing memory...

I'm looking forward to hearing people's experiences with the programable ignitor. From what I understand, even if you put a set of 790 cams in an 865 motor, the ignition timing would still be optimized for the 865 cam. I suppose with one of these units, you could match the ignition timing to the new cam. Anybody considering this? I would be interested to hear if anybody does.

Thanks Bucky, I read some posts over on the TRAT site that discussed this with the new and old thruxton. Apparently, Pieman in the UK had swapped an old ignitor into a newer thruxton that had been retro-fitted with a 790 cam and had good results. I'm thinking the same might apply to our bikes and if I ever get the cash to do something to my bike aside from exhaust and carb tuning, I would consider the TPUSA kit that comes with high compression 865 pistons and a 790 style cam (about $1,000). At that point you might as well spend another $200 and possibly get an improvement from the better ignition timing. I'm only a shade tree machanic, so I'm hoping some other folks try this out and verify that it's worthwhile.

My apologies for being such a newbie but what exactly will this do for my bike. Is this a straight replacement for an original part. From what I can gather, this will optimize my plugs' ignition firing/timing. Is it easy to install/program? Will it make the bike run smoother or add HP?

It's basically a replacement for the stock ignitor which seems to have a tendency to fail based on all of the posts here from people with failed ignitors.
But because its programable, you can also change the timing of the ignition. I'm not really an expert on these things, but basically the spark plug is set to fire right before the piston reaches the top of its stroke. However, sometimes the stock setting is designed more for emissions purposes than the setting that gives the best power, so if you change the ignition timing slightly (usually measured in degrees of crank rotation) it may give a small performance boost. Also, if you change the cams to the older (and better) spec cams, the ignition timing on the new bikes won't be optimal, so you might want to change it to better match the cams. Real engine gurus could expain all of the above in great detail, but that's the simple explanation. Since the Procomm unit seems to have a few different standard maps you could buy one with a 790 map to match the 790 cam. Real experts will probabably want to make their own customized ignition timing map with one of these, but that's beyond my skill level.

I imagine that one of the seven of nine positions would be for a 865 speedy/america. If you have a 865 speedy/america and install 790 cams, then set the blue number position dial to the 790 position. Done.
Mr. Zhou made note that the blue dial position is determined by your existing CDI part number/VIN number. And like Bucky stated above, Mr Zhou is very forthcoming and more than willing to talk! I thanked him profusely for his time and effort.
Funny thing too. My phone call was answered by a woman that had no knowledge of the new offering. She asked if I would like to speak with Mr. Zhou. When Mr. Zhou picked up, I made mention of Bonnevilleamerica.com. Mr. Zhou was very familiar with that site. Our Site. Even though procom had a CDI for the 360 cranks already, all the 360 crank riders are directly benefiting from the fact that Triumph dared to 'bastardize' the Bonneville. In so doing, Procom, eventually succumbed to our desires and quite remarkably, dedicated engineering mind power to producing a CDI for the 270 cranks. Procom thought out of the GILL box and developed a multi application ignitor. This benefits Procom, the 360 owners and 270 crank owners. As now the 360 crowd has the benefit of being able to program the CDI.
So to all those aholes who say we don’t own a true classic or retro British motorcycle: KISS MY GRITS. And don’t bother to buy one of the upgraded CDI, that us non classic, non retro trumpet owners caused to be developed!
Grits indeed!

I'd like to know what CDI unit is supposed to go with the early 03 Americas with a serial number below 237500. It appears the PDF file from Procom only shows that their CDI units are for units >237500 and they have two different units for that series???

Hi Greg, Not wanting to appear dumb. What do you mean by serial number?
I have a 2004 Speedmaster built in 02 of that year. The Igniter is part number T1292060.

Excellent information thankyou.. I did have a feeling the part number changed around 04 / 05 but as we are under snow here I didnt want to go take the tank off and have a look at mine.
I have had the 03 cdi unit from my mates on my bike and it worked fine so not actually sure what changed inside them, anyway, looks like Im set to order one...
I think Wesley has actually confused me in the fact that he wanted to know the part number on my bike, however, according to the "blue dial" you can just select what ever your cdi part number is...
