hi
I want to fit a fuel/air ratio guage to my 05 america. I am sure I have seen some posts on the topic here but a search has not turned anything up, can anyone point me in the right direction, thanks.

One of the challenges is finding a suitable weatherproof gauge mount. The rest is pretty easy...weld a bung, install a wideband O2 sensor, pick the gauge of your choice, & wire it up.

What I don't get is where do you install the A/F sensor in our bikes (carb models)?

Usually on the crossover tube.

probably the G2 kit. and a temperary mount on the handlebars. I need it to tune the FCRs, I do not intend to leave it on permanently. THe sensor bung will go in the cross over pipe.

After intense reading,,,the O2 senors need to be installed above 9 O'clock and 3 O'clock because moisture will destroy sensor quick.
Tapping into the crossover would give you a rough(ruff)(my opinion) average of the two cylinders. If Adjusting carbs evenly(screws and/or jets) one would assume you will achieve accurate A/F ratio off of each cylinder,,,,,,Ideal world?
From reading,,,,,,,,"I" would tap(the bung mount) into each header 1.5" from header bolts.
O2 sensors need to be hot before they start work'n.
Right off the cyl. head sounds ideal.
Buy a POS header,,,,weld the bung mounts.
Test one side at a time at idle and adjust.
follow the "throttle position guide lines for tuning carberators". Found on this web site,,,
Money burning hole in pocket,,,,buy two of the "Inovative" LC-1 kits($300+,,,,each),,,,then,,,you can monitor both lungs(cyl.'s) at same time.
THEN,,,,,,you could mail the system to other members,,,get your money back,,,they could tune,,,and send to the next,,,,and on and on,,,,,,,,,,
Once you have your bike "pegged in",,,,,why leave it on the shelf?
The units i'm looking at are less costly.
Gauge's,,,$69 * 2,,,,O2 sensors,,,$29 * 2,,,,Bung Kits,,,$10 * 2.
High dollar units(Inovative" LC-1 kits) come with software so you'll get more info.

I ran one single wire Bosch O2 sensor & Nordskog A/F meter on a previous I4 bike. The O2 sensor was mounted on the mid-pipe & performed just fine. There are heated O2 sensors if you are concerned about sensor temperature, however IMO as a practical matter it's much ado.
The ideal setup would arguably be a separate sensor & meter for each cylinder, however as a practical matter a single sensor in the crossover will work just fine.
What many don't realize is that the A/F ratio is going to vary in different conditions & sometimes from moment to moment, no matter how well tuned the carbs are.

It's a little ironic that EFI BA/SM owners are disconnecting their O2 sensors and carbed BA/SM owners are installing them.

And most don't need them at all!  (wonder how many D&D, South Bay, or anybodys for that matter, prepped motors have them, WANT them, or would find them, permenantly installed, as beneficial?)
