Man oh man.. what a cold, wet Georgia winter. Nasty... Well maybe it would be best to try to focus my thoughts elsewhere.. hmmm.. warmer days.. lots of cool motorcycles... friends old and new? Could it be? Georgia Rally '10... Yep.. gonna do it again.. our 7th year. This year we'll call it the second week in May.. that's May 6th,7th and 8th. Of course we'll be here all week riding here and there so take a week and check out the place.. no shortage of things to do in the area so come soak up some small southern town ambiance. Got a couple of new rides in mind this year and would like to cover some old ones... I'm thinking Wayah road again.. it's been a couple of years since we've been up that way and I want to do Fort Mountain again this year as well. The new runs? ahhh... patience.. they require some planning so I'll be passing along updates over the course of the next few months. It's going to be a great year and we're looking forward to another great rally. So make your vacation plans and start getting in the road trip frame of mind cause spring is on the way and we are in full-on rally mode. Hope to see y'all here! This thread will serve as the attendance roster as well so be sure to let me know if and when you're coming so I can get you on the "official" list. Till then...

I hear there are some nice roads out your way. Been having trouble with the Nomad and money is really tight, but i marked my calendar. I just might venture south and east this year. It would be so good to meet some of you.

Damien,
Dahlonega, GA. You COULD make it here in a day, but I would not recommend it. I have been out your way a couple of times and from here Memphis is a good ride and then a short run to LR the next day. From Memphis you can take US 64 across the bottom of TN and get VERY close, or you can drop down through MS, and AL and come across that way.
Others from out that way may have other suggestions on good routes as they have made the pilgrimage to the pole barn themselves.

You can also stop at the Buford Pusser home and museum in Adamsville along US64 and it will take you close to Lynchburg where you can stop for a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery. Americana at it's finest.

Buford Pusser is a real person? Related to Buford T. Pusser?

He had even signed to play himself in the second movie, before he died( or was killed depending on who you believe). If you are a fan of the movies, it is worth a stop in Adamsville. I believe that US64 is even called the Buford T. Pusser Highway through Adamsville.

Last year I left Houston at 1:30 Monday afternoon, and road in thunderstorms all the way to Jackson, MS, and in to Birmingham about 5:00 Tuesday morning. Not the most direct route - I prefer East Texas, and cutting from 59 to Schreveport to catch I20 I could have made better time, despite the rain, but I must say that the "midnight riding" across two states and into a fourth was very memorable due to the weather - easily one of the best bonuses of the whole trip. I took a room In Birmingham for a few hours then made it in to Dahlonega before 2:00, Tuesday afternoon. Coming home, similar route, left Dahlonega at 9:30 Sunday morning, and was in my driveway, in Houston, at 3:30, Monday morning. I held up for tornadoes in Birmingham that Sunday morning, and then fought a failing ignition coil some before finally breaking through the rain in Mississippi, so I could have made better time with better weather, but heh, what else did I have to do? Travelling alone, I make the best time I can. I really do want to take the northern route through Arkansas and Memphis, though, time permitting.
