I have a pair and enjoy them, esp for the cooler temps. I would not say 'better' then leather, just different. More comfortable for me to wear and not immediatly identifed as 'rider gear'. The extra kevlar in the seat make it feel a little 'funny' walking around, maybe like wearing an extra undergarment.......The kevlar at the knee extends to the top of my boot. Hope I never have to find out how they perform, but I find them comforting..... ymmv
