I need to remove the "triangular Triumph badge" from the chrome plated "right hand side alternator cover" of our 04 america. Has anyone done this? In the book, it APPEARS it is glued in place with an unknown adhesive? Did you loosen the adhesive with lacquer thinner? Did you cut it loose with a razor blade? Any help is appreciated.

It is glued on. You could try prising the top away from the cover a little and sliding a length of fishing line behind it. Use about 18" of line and then a 'sawing' motion back and forth to cut through the adhesive. It's worked for me taking off car badges that are stuck on with 3M tape.

I'm thinking this fishing line thing is a pretty good idea, but take it one step further.... try a high E guitar steel string. It is super thin, mega strong and can be heated ahead of time (dropped in a pot of hot water first).
Hmmmm, I wonder if one could pass an electric current through it to keep it warm while working with it. (disclaimer... no one should ever attempt this at home, even if the Mythbusters have already done it, okay?)

Now that's taking music to the next level, Keith. I would have never thought of the E string. Not Bad.

Wouldn't trust it on paint but chrome should be okay.

It appears to be some sort of two sided adhesive gasket. All of it stayed on the badge, not the chrome cover. I wedged a utility knife blade between the badge & cover, then poured lacquer thiner over it and it separated rather easily after that. The new badge is brass. I put construction adhesive/caulk on both surfaces & put it in place. My concern is the heat may cause the adhesive to fail. I don't think so, but time will now tell.

It was so rainy and cold today , never got out of the 60's. I really need full sun to bring out the "pop" I believe the new, polished brass badge displays. I hope to get pic's next weekend.

I used exterior mounting tape from Home Depot for my reflectors on the back of my bags. It is double-sided with a foam core. Your construction adhesive may work. Make sure it says on the label that it is good for non-porous surfaces.

No sun for awhile now, so heres the pic's without sunshine. The first pic is the finished product (minus polishing). The second is the new one (extra one), the original, and a blank thats ready for some other type of emblem. The emblem I used is a hat pin off ebay. Just grind off the pin, and epoxy to the brass blank. Obviously, you can use any little Triumph emblem that fits. I just really liked the orange & blue hat pin I found. The third pic is my fuel filter. I used a 1949 Carter fuel filter with a modern screen filter canister inside. I found a 200 year anniversary "Jim Beam" shot glass that just happened to be a perfect fit. Lucky me!

Those are some cool touches there Erle! You're missing your cap on the vacuum port of the intake manifold

I've NEVER denied the Avatar relationship. The vac. line was removed to provide a clearer pic of the filter and it's screw adjuster. As far as "embellishments" go, the badge has; 15 cents of brass stock, 10 cents of epoxy, $4.50 for the hat pin emblem, and about FIVE HOURS total time to gather everything and make it! fill in YOUR labor rate and you'll see it's NOT cost effective. So, if your interested, I can send you one for $145.00.(plus shipping) (I won't EVEN go into the time invested in that stupid little fuel filter)
