It's worked for me taking off car badges that are stuck on with 3M tape.
I'm thinking this fishing line thing is a pretty good idea, but take it one step further.... try a high E guitar steel string. It is super thin, mega strong and can be heated ahead of time (dropped in a pot of hot water first).
Hmmmm, I wonder if one could pass an electric current through it to keep it warm while working with it. (disclaimer... no one should ever attempt this at home, even if the Mythbusters have already done it, okay?)
