You know, If I could get it to run on methane I'd have it made. I could just drill a big hole in my seat, run a hose (lubed hose of course) from the "gas tank" to the carbs, I could fly down the road all day after a few burittos and brewskis. How's that for a mental image? Youz guyz, SECRET , you're gonna just have to hold your horses

Anything higher than about a 10 hp nitrous kit is just asking for trouble, especially if one is still running the stock cast pistons, or, high compression forged ones. (You treat a nitrous engine just like you would a blower motor: dropped compression ratio [or dropped effective compression ratio]; retarded spark timing; stronger pistons; and other typical mods, which most Triumph twin owners have already done.)
10 hp would be anywhere from a 10% to 15% increase over stock. That's a fair amount of increase.
I's of prime importance to insure an adequate fuel supply. In other words, get a Pingle!

I play goalkeeper for an insurance company's football (soccer) team a couple of times a month. Well, there was corner kick and 6 or 7 of us went up high for the ball ... Pat Jennings got it (that's me )... and we all landed on my left ankle, breaking it in three places (2 metal plates - 9 screws).
So, I am laying down for as little as I can get away with (which could be 6 weeks)
Back to the thread, my tactic with Dinqua doesn't seem to have worked.

Ok, ok i'll spill the beans. I have a set of the 38mm Amal carbs made by Norman Hyde, courtesy of my best buddy Brent at newspeedmaster.com. They are very well built and I can't wait to try these things out. They are the larger size concentric carbs (the throttle cables lift the sliders, no vacuum!), made exclusively for the 904 big bore Triumphs, by the company that knows more about carbs than I ever will. I am going to fit them tonight onto Matt Lessard's 904cc 2004 Speedmaster. I had to have a couple new braces made as they were damaged in shipping across the pond (no fault of Brent's). Now that I have them ready to mount, I will give them the official Dink test tonight if all goes well. Stay tuned They also sell a set of 34 or 36mm carbs for the stock 790s.

Looking at Norman Hyde's website reveals that the 38mm carbs are in the neighborhood of $700 US dollars before shipping, etc + the $800 for the Weisco including machining and (if Pat is the labor rate) and we are in the $1500 to $1600 range for our performance boost. Hmmm...Big Bore Kit & Amals OR Georgia Rally and dragging seriously BEHIND Pat and Matt. What do you 2 knuckleheads think? (Pat & Matt)

What kind of air filter are you going to use for the Amals? Will it work with the K&Ns that come with the Freak? Nice of Matt to brave new waters with these carbs. Can't wait to hear about the results. Here's a pic of one:

So tonight the dink and I fit the new Amal carbs. they do fit the stock manifolds. The cables need a little bit of tweaking but overall they get the only rating the better then 2 thumbs up. Which would be me and dink grunting high 10ing and the look on pats wifes face watching our pants get huge.

Ok I will tell it like it was... Before the fact: Our bestest buddy, Brent, offered me a set for a good price so I jumped on them, but I made Matt pay the bill for them. (hey, I just got married) Next, the brackets were AFU and I had to have some new stainless (never break stuff) braces made so I could even hook them up. Next step, buy beer (why am I buying the beer for the install on Matt's bike by the way???) get to the shop, dink around with the cables...WTF??? I need a new throttle cable because the stock one will not do, details and pix to follow later, and I had to have new braces made too.. Anyway, the meat of the test, hook them up cables don't fit, new braces, PITA to get the slide/cable/do ma fuggie assembly to fit... toss a quart or so of gas into the tank (new Pingle going on too)...hit the starter button...whirrr whirrrr whirrrrrrrrr. Grrr, more gas into then tank (had less than 2 quarts, so understandable) Matt's boss (the guy that owns the shop we have been using for a month or so) snickers in the background....then we hear it...the "whoomph" of a twin trying to come alive. Vroom, rrrr, vroom, poof. Pause, press starter again...whirr whirr, floom, poof , floom, whir.. more snickers...
add more gas to teh dry tank, whirrr, whirrrrrrr WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA we all jump back, running like it's spodda, VROOM VROOM Now, you gotta know, the throttle cable assembly was not even attached, cause it dunna work, it dunna fit, I (the Dinkster) has me fat drunken middle fu fingers insaide the carbs, lifting the slides manually, (with my fingers stuck inside each carb) but she is one screamin' be-atch!!! Holy crap!! It runs hard, loud, steady and with absolutely no cables or adjustmenst as yet (cept for a minor idle speed screw tweak) Holy Amals Batdood!! This bike is friggin screamin!!! I mean Screamin!!!!!!!!!!!! And I haven't even thought about tuning her yet..........
OK, gonna have to get me a set as I am amazed at the response from the motor, and my jeans. Risin and grinnin...
As Tim Taylor wold say, "Uhh uhh, power!" These will be THE CARBS.
Holy crap! Buy them, get in line folks... minor issues, but negligable.
Next, onto the cams.....

I wish I could say that, but no I cannot. All I can say is that we have them and are working on them but at this point I am sworn to secrecy as to the price.
The stock throttle cables will not work with these, and they DO NOT come with a new one, yet... Norman Hyde sent me an email when I asked if they forgot parts, and said that since there are so many variants and bars used with so many different Thriumphs, he does not supply cables. So, you can go to his shop and he will make them up for you. Kinda of a long wet ride for US, so we need to get our own made up. Never fear though, the Dink solved the problem. I found a local shop that carries the Motion Pro Cable making kits right down the road a ways, and bought some little parts for about $5 that will do the job perfectly. I got a little solder on tube/crimp connector for the end that fits perfectly in the little 1-2 cable adaptor that came with the carbs. I also got a nice new ferel (5mm if I remember correctly) that will crimp on the end of the cable where I cut it and make it good as new. There is another option too, don't you guys love all the research I do for you? Flanders Cables makes every little part you could ever need to make brand new custom cables. You could easily just buy the stuff and just whip them out using their stuff. Much wider selection that Motion Pro, and the prices are also very nice. All you need to do is figure out what sizes are needed and order the parts and make away.
Anyway, it really pains me to say that I am sure, when we get this done, that Matt's bike will be even faster than mine. I keep telling him I am going to de-tune his just enough to be slower than me. But I'm not that big a turd. Am I?
I will post more details about these soon, as well as the entire cable making process. So, don't be scared away from these carbs, with a small amount of work, that will most likely be taken care of soon, they can be fitted and running in short order.
C ya!
