I think I used 220 sandpaper (should have gone up to probably 800 but I got lazy) and some Mothers aluminum polish with a cloth wheel on a bench buffer. I plan on redoing it eventually the right way, but the enamel was such a pain to get off the forks even with aircraft stripper that I just wanted to be done the day I did mine. I should be able to get a mirror finish on them when I do it over.
