All of you are CRAZY!! I love it!!!

I do have to admit I love my HD pipes on my sportster so what do I do about my pipes BlueNose?

Also, do you find you like a tach? I am putting a small clock on the handlebars in between the risers, but what about installing a tach? I read some of the other posts but am still not sure.

if you like your HD pipes so much, try slipping th mufflers off your Sporty & fitting them up to th Triumph headers to see if you like th sound... did to Mon's bike...sound gr8..cheap as chips off ebay....& dont scrape round corners no more after installing th shorter Progressive shocks on th back for her...

I actually already have progressive shocks. The dealer had to lower my ride. As for the oil...will let the mechanic take care of that one. It's a girl thing!

Guess it's just the mirrors, tach etc.

Swapping pipes from sportster to America???? Something to think about. Does it require a remap?

I'll probably wait on the pipes as I'd prefer to finish the kitchen remodel first. Hubby thinks I need to cook him some food, I just don't know about you men...do you really need to eat every day??????????

Hello Kathy,

Congrats on the new ride. Glad to see you have joined the insane asylum.

How does the new America compare to the Sporty performance wise?

There is no comparison. I've owned a sport bike before my Harley and while the sporty fit me better the ride was so much rougher. Performance wise they're night and day.

On my America I can actually accelerate and get down the road. It corners way better and my husband and I can have a quick chat at the light instead of yelling over the pipes.

I have said the America is like a combo of the sporty (style and fit) and the sportbike (performance). In my opinion it's the best of both worlds. Needless to say I love it.

Wish it was warmer as I'll have to wait to really ride it. We do ride in the cold, it's just when it's icy I keep it parked.

So much for a short and sweet answer. Yes I talk like I write.

When we were dating, I bought my girlfriend a novelty T-shirt that said; "If God intended for me to cook, why did he invent restaurants?" We'll be married 24 years next week, but I didn't think she'd take that saying so seriously. We remodeled our kitchen over a year ago ...and the plastic wrap is still on the oven.

Welcome aboard Kathy!

Mon's is not EFI, but i'd say, judging from other posts as below, that u will need to remap for most aftermarket pipes etc...sounds cheap enuf tho...i only suggested them because easy enuf to swap out without any cost till th mood moves u to spend on th Trumpy some more...have fun...cheers

Experience has taught me, if I want to eat everyday, I pretty much have to cook everyday. The two being closely related. Although, if you cook a whole lot on one day, you can eat for a number of days. And isn't "fast food" a contradictions in terms

Now pipes and remapping (EFI) is a new concept to me. Does the program "dial-in" various pipes, or is it kinda' like trial and error?

So John, I take you're not a "sashimi-type" o' guy then, huh?! OR, as perhaps Eddie Cantor might have sung it..."If you knew sushi, like I knew sushi, oh, oh, oh what a fish!"

Okay sorry, now that I'm got THAT old joke outta my system....

Speakin' of Sportster mufflers...Mike[FCTush] used to have Sportster mufflers on his BA before one of them was damaged, and I gotta tell ya I thought his bike sounded better than most any of the bikes I've ever heard ridin' around at the Southwest Triumph Fest. It was a nice deep rumble sound.

I've often thought of purchasing a set of 'em myself.

Yeah Bill, as far as I can remember Mike's old Sporty exhausts were OEM Harley-issue and were the same diameter and just slipped right on without needing reducers or increasers.

However, for further details I'd say maybe PM Mike and ask him about 'em directly, as I can't quite remember where and how the rear bolting points on 'em were attached to the bike.

(but like I said, they sure sounded great!!!)

Not sure how the sporty pipes will work on the America. Besides, I'm selling the sporty in the spring and I need to have it in tact to sell. Suggestions or thoughts???

I punched out the baffles on my sportster's pipes and I like it, but my Triumph dealer said there are no baffles on my America, so what do I "punch" out. Also didn't have to remap the FI on the sportster and assume won't have to on the America if all I do is punch out the baffles?

Probably don't have to but then you risk engine damage such as burned valves from running lean. Probably at the very least shorten engine life by not re-mapping. If you don't punch them all out you could probably use the TOR map.

Your pipes have baffles but not removable baffles. The baffles need to be cut, drilled, or knocked out. Not sure on the 09 but earlier had 3 or 4 baffles depending on the pipes. The 09 will also have a catalyst in the pipe you have to be careful not to damage if you are going to leave it in place. I have heard it is soft making it difficult to remove.

I have had quite a few people tell me a remap is not really necessary for minor changes as it will re tune it self fairy quickly ?

A minor change maybe but open pipes is not a minor change especially if they are mapped lean to start with the way earlier bikes were jetted lean from the factory. Might not be since with injection the A/F gets minor adjustments when needed while running. But I don't think they do a full re-map by themselves like is needed when you go from stock to open pipes.

That could be right i know very little about EFI and all that s$$t
Us old people get told all sorts of thing that may or may not be true
I think it depends on weather the person can remap or not as to the answer we get from bike shops about remapping

So is this a good post to say that my Speedy is down at the dealer on consignment and there is a 92 fxrs in it's garage spot?
