Raleigh's pretty much like any city these days. Lots of traffic during rush hour, a fair amount of stuff to to, people in a hurry. It will be some what of a culture shock for you I guess, but not as much these days as in the past.
There are lots of nice roads to ride away from the citys.
Just expect to meet lots of deer and bugs.
