I carry fifteen to twenty Lbs. all the time with the tools and unsundry, that stayes in the bags. And I've put a fifty lb. bag of dog food over the fender resting on the top of the bags with no ill effect to the brackets. It makes my bags sag a little but they are cheep ones.
