I have a 2002 F-150 with the same power plant. I put in a K&N intake system and a Borla cat-back (single-side out). I put both on at the same time and the difference was amazing. I could instantly tell the engine was able to "breath" so much better. Decent little boost in power for just a few inexpensive bolt-ons. I also have a Superchips programmer for when I'm feeling froggy. Again, not MASSIVE power improvements, but definately fun. It will poop and get, make no mistake about it.

I bought my truck new in late 2001 and put the bolt-ons about a year and a half later. I've recently just gone over 115K miles and it still runs like a champ. The only engine issues I've had since purchase is to change out a spark plug and an ignition coil (on separate occasions). I firmly believe those simple bolt-ons, religiously doing scheduled maintenace and not getting TOO crazy with the lead foot is the reason my truck is still running as great as it is. Open up the airways and you'll be amazed.
