I turn 50 this Monday and not sure how I feel about it. I can't believe I even made it this long, didn't think I would make it to 30! So those of you having past this milestone, what's the good and bad?
And what's with this test I have to take next month and every year after, doesn't sound like too much fun!

I have to say my 50's were some of my best years.

My kids were late teenagers and pretty good company without tieing us down as much. Work was ok, as ok as it ever is anyway. Physically I was great, my older daughter got me into running 5k's, I skied and skated in the winter and was way more active than in my 40s when i was busier with work and youngsters. Hey, I got my first new bike in 30 years when I was 55.

The good; some places give senior discounts @ 50.
The bad; PREPPING for that colonoscopy.
That's about it!

Rather disconcerting when young women call me "sir".

1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

3. No one expects you to run....anywhere.

4. People call at 9 PM and ask, "Did I wake you?"

5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

7. Things you buy now won't wear out.

8. You can eat dinner at 4:00 P.M.

9. You can live without sex but not without glasses.

10. You enjoy hearing about other peoples operations.

11. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.

12. You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.

13. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

14. You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter
who walks into the room.

15. You sing along with elevator music.

16. Your eyes won't get much worse.

17. Your investment in health insurance is finally
beginning to pay off.

18. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than
the national weather service.

19. Your secrets are safe with your friends because
they can't remember them either.

20. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.

Oh my god, I laughed my butt off all the way thru that. Thank you. I'll be 55 come Christmas time. It's not bad at all. Were it not for the economy, life's generally pretty good. Ya' got most everything you need. If you're lucky enough to have a home, a bike, a job, your health & a good woman (good luck with that one...) yer pretty well set.

You're as old as you feel man. George Bernard Shaw summed it all up - "We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing."

Play hard! I do.

Bigbill's just about nailed it, apart from number 9 although the need is not so immediate.
Coming up on 61, got the home, two bikes, a job, the love of a good woman (been with the love of my life since I was 19)A great son and daughter and two lovely grandsons.
Also acquired a dodgy prostate and planning rides round toilet stops is a ******.
One thing I hate, admiring women the same age or younger than my daughter makes me feel uncomfortable, and not in a good way, she's 31.

******! you can say bloody but not ****** (a word to describe a female dog)
Ooops, can't use that word either! A structure used to hold water back, *** with an N on the end.

The good: You can banter and tease with pretty young things and they smile politely in return. Wait, that's the bad

50's rock( are 58 year olds allowed to say that?). I got a brand new kidney when I was 50 then a brand new TBA when I was 51 after 27 years since the last bike. I have a home a good job, a healthy 18 year old son and I get to go to BA.com rallys. Plus I don't need to take Viagra. What could be better then that? I just wish these d&%* AARP applications would quit coming in the mail.

The good: You can still do all the things you like to do.

The bad: It hurts more, and the rehab takes longer

I hear that Paul,

When I was about 49 1/2, AARP propaganda started showing up in my mailbox. I was irritated to realize "they" tracked our ages. I went to the front counter and requested to refuse delivery.

The counter minion just looked at me

Once I thought about returning the application in their pre-paid envelope with some "ABC" gum and no money. How
is that for being childish as a 50 plus plus geezer?

The mail I hate is the stuff advising me to take out cheap life insurance to help my loved ones cover the cost of my funeral.
Goes a long in cheering me up.
Mind you, those stair lifts are looking more and more like a attractive home improvement.

Not exactly Paul,

But keeping with the thread theme, I am routinely reminded I'm not 25 anymore . Have pretty much ditched the cane, after leaving the wheelchair at the hospital and the walker a month ago. So I am now relearning how to walk upright, unassisted like all you modern bipeds and speak in complete sentences.

I have a lingering, but diminishing "hitch in my gitteeup", reminiscent of Walter Brennan on the Real McCoys. And keeping the threaded theme my 20 something co-worker remarked "Who's Walter Brennan?" . I've heard a lot of wild things in my life, but never heard someone say outloud "Who's Walter Brennan?"

Does Triumph still make 2002 Cardinal Red Bonneville Americas?

it's only a number. That test you mentioned - colonoscopy ev 10 yr. The prep is worse than the test. I happen to enjoy reading AARP mag and bulletin. Very informative. I must say that when you do get to a certain age you do become invisible to the younger generation but you know I don't mind it a bit. I'm 57 but in my mind and body feel like a 20yo. After a 20yr hiatus from riding to raise a son, I recently purchased a 2009 Bonneville, basic model and absolutely having the time of my life. Husband has a Scrambler and an America. We are having a ball. Now if we could just get our son out of the house.....

Well Joe, in addition to all these things you're about to experience, you might've also noticed a constant theme running through the responses here of which you may wish to make a mental note for future reference.

(yep...you're ALSO going to be MUCH more appreciative of the concept of "Irony" as you greet the world each and every new day from now on TOO!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well, speaking for some of us, we got a lot more under our belt (and above it too).

Will be fitty-two next week. Hard to believe. Find myself viewing people younger then me as 'old'. It's all in how you think...
