The snap needs to be fitted the correct way. With the master link on the bottom of the swingarm, the open bit of the clip should go towards the front of the bike. Or in other words, the closed end goes in the direction of chain travel.

A Master-Clip is NOT as strong as a Riveted Link, period. The DID 525 chain would/will hold up with the big bore, if and only if, you use a riveted master link. Whenever one is forced to use a snap link (like in an emergency situation), consider putting either a Tie-Wire or some RTV Silicone over the Master-Clip, for safety as these clips have been known to come off. (OK sorry about that last line)
PS: Who ever told you to use a snap link? No more bier for him/her!
