Hey all,
Having just survived my chain off and going to have to cherry the fender as a result...... I'm wondering? Thinking about lowering the rear 1/2" with new 440's and then customizing the fender by adding about 1/2" to the bottom (maybe a little more at the back) so the fender comes down a little more and closes the area up down to the tire a bit more and bobbing it of about 5" with a slow curve coming from this new bottom edge. I think it's a go for me just wondering if we have anyone that has done it? Kind-of odd how the curve of the fender matches nothing when you look at it.

Agreed... even when the fender is lowered over the tire, the rear of the fender just sorta protrudes awkwardly !! Good luck on your trim job.

Again, was this lost chain joined with a riveted master link or was it joined with a clipped master link? Was the lost chain a DID 525? Think your big bore contributed to the master link failure?

The link was a snap link. Won't do that again after I have seen the damage that can occur , and my damage is minimal. I could've broke the case, that would've been bad. Big bore the cause? I don't think so. It was a DID 525 x ring and am assured that the chain would hold up. I can't tell cuz there is no link but maybe the clip came off and then the front plate worked off and then we have something about 20% of the strength of the chain. The way I ride into these corners in my area where I was heading, I am glad it happen where it did or I would have simply shot right off the side of the mountain. Have the pressed link on the same chain cuz all the links are good to go and she's flyin' high.

The snap needs to be fitted the correct way. With the master link on the bottom of the swingarm, the open bit of the clip should go towards the front of the bike. Or in other words, the closed end goes in the direction of chain travel.

A Master-Clip is NOT as strong as a Riveted Link, period. The DID 525 chain would/will hold up with the big bore, if and only if, you use a riveted master link. Whenever one is forced to use a snap link (like in an emergency situation), consider putting either a Tie-Wire or some RTV Silicone over the Master-Clip, for safety as these clips have been known to come off. (OK sorry about that last line)
PS: Who ever told you to use a snap link? No more bier for him/her!

I loped off a lot of metal on mine. I chopped it off a few inches after where the struts stop. My bike is lowered 3" in the rear so it does hug the 200 series tire more.  I used a an airwheel to cut mine. Mark a line and tape it up. Taping it cuts down on the flaking of paint. Fryguy

Just had my rear fender chopped by the guys at my local bike shop....theres a pic in my gallery before it was grinded a little more and shaped up better. I also just ordered a set of lowering blocks from Boogieman on this site, that should really drop the fender down on the tires, I will post more pics after its finished...

The tire is an Avon AM23 200/60-16. Its riding on a Excel 5.5inch rear rim. Stretches the rear end out nicely.

Yes, I used a stock hub and spokes off of a 2002 Thunderbird. They used the exact same hub but they use a 16 inch rear wheel on the Tbird standard and a 17inch on the Tbird sport.

Yup. I have a from Tbird wheel on mine, and I had a dude measure his rear for me once, same. I almost bought it! But I have so much left on my rear tire, couldn't justify it...

No, any Tbird rear rim uses the same hub setup. Some of the difference's are the amount of spokes on some. I used a TBird standard rim from a 2002. It had the same amount of spokes(32). You can also use the rear wheel hub from an adventurer as well. One thing about Triumph is they always try to use as much from their parts stock instead of creating new pieces and configurations. Hope this helps.

hi, i have a 2002 BA with a std 170/80 R15. The local dealer told me i shouldnt put anything different on it than what i had already. Can you guys tell me if i can go wider??

Yes, I do have a wider rim to get all the benefits out of the 200 tire. You can go wider but your first choices are going to be 180 and then 200 series. You'll have to check the tire mfg's specs for each tire. It will give the minimum width required to run that tire. You can go to a 200 series tire withe the stock 3.5inch(??) rim but it will only be as wide as what you have on now. In order to get max width out of it you'll need to go with a wider rim. I did go with a 180 series tire on the stock rim but it was maybe 1/8" wider. The stock rim is pretty much maxed out.

I think the easiest way to get to a wider rim is to find a TBS rear wheel. 4.25" wide, 17" diameter wheel. Gregorz has one.
