I went to the Thunderbird Roadshow today at the local Triumph dealer. While I'm not a big fan of the styling (really hate the bobbed rear fender). The engine was quite impressive. They had an engine on a stand that they took it apart to show some of the advances. Took it apart in around 10 min (most of the case covers only had two screws fastened for quicker disassembly). It appears to be very easy to get the heads/cams off (can be done in situ) as well as access to clutch, oil and water pump and alternator. Big mother pistons. One only needs to split the case for access to the crank and transmission. They were pushing the big bore kit which increases power by 20% if you believe the sales pitch.
They had a little presentation that advised Triumph worldwide sales are very strong and plans to introduce two additional models in 2010, one of which has already been leaked (Rocket Roadster). There are additional models in the 2011 lineup. No plans to scrap the 900cc Crusier (i.e. America/Speedmaster) but could not confirm if they will consolidate to one model.
Thats it for now.

I rode a T-bird when the demo truck was in Birmingham Alabama. Everything was wonderful as expected except for the terrible vibration in the bars. Probably an issue with that particular bike. BTW, a friend of mine has a friend who's cousin-in-law knows someone etc. that says Triumph has 5 running prototypes of a 500cc single at the factory.

I felt a vibration when I rode it also, so have many others. It wasn't terrible but it was not as smooth as an America, an R-3. or the 1050 triples. Over on the Thunderbird board they say it lessens as you increase the mileage. This is just me...I don't want it there in the first place. I think however it is a nit pick thing and overall it is a nice bike. I think I need to log some more miles on one before I put the money down. Harley riders would probably think the Thunderbird is as smooth as silk.
