Sorry to trouble you but I am new here (this my first thread) so I do not know the people/history and I am very curious.
Who do you consider the long distance guru of this site here?

Moe definately gets around. And there are plenty of us here who get a thousand mile trip or two in twice a year.

Well I rode my 66 TR6C triumph chopper, hard tail frame and springer front end straight through from where I live to Yellowstone park. That is about 2100 miles one way or 3380km one way. Also done same to Canada, Sturgis, Louisiana (Madi Gras) Daytona Fl, Laconia, NH, Colonial Williamsburg, VA and the list goes on. I take at least one long trip every summer.

Welcome Sergio. I saw your question in the "Okay then...COOL" thread about my saying I rode in other parts of the world. Well, that was a reference to a ride this past summer with who I believe has everybody beat around here when it comes to REALLY long distance motorcycle travel. His name is Thanassis, and his site name here at this website is "bedouin". He lives in Athens Greece, not all that far from where you live, coincidentally. Now while this particular ride through Europe was on a couple of BMWs, Thanassis has in the past ridden extensively throughout Europe on his Speedmaster. And altogether and on a number of different motorcycles over the years, I believe he has ridden well over 1 million kilometers in total. THAT'S the man you ought to talk to, my new friend! (and when you DO talk to him, tell him for me that I really, really, really WILL eventually get that ride recap of that great trip done and posted at this website....yes, REALLY!!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I'm new around here too. I've done some long trips. Have a couple of good tips. Get a good night sleep, no caffine, no alochol (until your done ridding) plenty of water & some gatorade when needed. Light meals and snacks, like fruit or grandora bars. Take breaks when feeling tired and don't push yourself. I ride one of those other brand bikes (cough 883 sportster model yr 2000). But have been about to put in over 800 miles in a day and the most of 2500 miles in 5 days. So throw the questions out there that you want answered. I'm sure a few of us will have some good tips for you.
Do not look back and ask why, look forward and ask, why not?

What about Nobby? Didn't he tour most of the US before his bike got stolen? Other than him, I think Bedouin takes the crown. His trips are epic.

I doubt I can compete with many here, but I did 5,100 miles in 8 days on my Speedmaster this summer.

Sorry to moderetors if I put this thread in wrong section although I am a little confused as my post was about a person(s) and this section is for rallys and events which is why I put it in the lounge.
It seems member Bedouin does a lot of touring. I would be interest what he and the others mentioned (who have not posted) have to say about the bikes.
GirlfromIL, thank you but I am already quite experienced in touring on other bikes.

Well, perhaps all you need to know is that apparently Bedouin no longer uses his cruiser for long distance touring...

What happened to the guy from VA who had a half dozen Iron Butt rides? He had an auxillary gas tank. Last trip I remember, he went from VA to Death Valley and back in like 6 days.

RobBA05 did an Ironbutt ride on his America a couple years ago, and complained of the ice pick between the shoulders syndrome for quite some time after.

I believe that was attending the Georgia rally at Chy & Di's a couple years ago. It's like a vision quest sort of thing, as Rob commented dodging roadside wildlife from the Pleistocene era. I could be wrong.........
I did an iron butt attending the same rally, only the TBA cheated and rode in the pickup bed

Sergio Ciao!
I have been doing long motorcycle tours every year (bar one) since 1981. This year I did 4 tours, the last one (August) being 11.200 kms to include Nordkapp. Some of my tours included Iron Butt mileage but that was purely coincidental and not planned (I consider them an excercise and not a ride per se). As for the Speedy, I have taken it to 25-26 countries in the past 2 years (and that's just on 2 rides - 10.000 and 12.000 km's respectively). It can be done but don't look for any high-speed (Autostrada or Autobahn) touring (especially when 2-up). It's ideal for Balkans and Eastern Europe where the terrain is somewhat tighter (and bumpier ). I would think that if you wanted to include higher speed stuff and you were looking for a cruiser, then the T-Bird would be more suitable (if it suited to your taste, obviously).
The last ride I did on a GS 1200 I bought in order to prepare for future off-road work but I could easily have done it on the Speedy. I chose this one in order to be better matched to my other bike, an RT1100 which Dwight was riding for a major portion of this trip.
Any questions I would be happy to try cover for you.
Bedouin.

Bedouin is the tour king!! Now my tours are modest European affairs and not really Iron Butts (though I am up for if only I can find a fellow lunatic to ride with). Anyway when on tour I aim for 300 miles per day and the America/Speedy are more than man enough for the job. My preference is cruiser/roadster and simply has to be Triumph so America, Rocket 3, Speedy (with America bars) or the new T'Bird are all good to me (and I have riden them all).

Still there even now...but that has had allot to do with many different factors...the situation does not seem to be aggravated any longer while on board the America...(new risers seemed to have corrected the issue) but it was originated on board the TBA and now is aggravated by corking on the PC...driving my Truck (if I fail to pay attention to seat position and posture)...

But then again Rob, and correct me if I'm wrong here, that pain was pretty much caused by tryin' to get, and actually accomplishing the receiving of that Iron Butt citation on your BA that one time a few years back when you guys rode down to the Georgia Rally, right?! And so, as Ivan said immediately above you here, most people who own a BA or Speedy can and often do accomplish longer distance rides without encountering much pain afterwards IF they keep their daily milage down to a "reasonable" level such as say 300, 400 or maybe even 500 miles maximum, correct?! Which leads me to a question I've been wantin' to ask you for some time now, ol' buddy... Who the heck is that "Stewart" dude who says that you're "The Voice of Reason"??? 'Cause I gotta say that ANYBODY who would ride a motorcycle, and that's ANY motorcycle mind you, ONE THOUSAND friggin' MILES in ONE DAY just to get that citiation, CERTAINLY couldn't be one to FULLY understand and appreciate the concept of bein' REASONable, now COULD HE??? (...and so I think that Stewart dude, whoever he is, might wish to reassess his opinion of you, Rob ol' boy!!!)

I would say that Martyn and Jackie do a fair amount of miles and see a fair amount of the world also. Just thought I'd mention it. Mind you Grzegorz has been known to do UK to Poland quite a lot. Blimey even Ray has ventured past Birmingham a couple of times this year! Sorry Ray - couldn't resist that one mate! But hats off to Thanassis. He makes it all look so effortless as well. I would say that in the riding around with absolutely no idea where you are going and no idea where you are stakes -I've cracked a fair few miles in total ignorance. Mind you, so has Hedgehogs satnav

it wasn't the citation...so much as the chalange...like the ole "because it was there" attage...
and as far as the reasonable thing...I never claimed WISDOM...just reason...and lets face it even THAT is limited to certain areas...
and I think that particular monicure goes back to a certain rant a while back regarding "slower traffic keep right"
