I don't know the exact size of the neck but the SM and BA are the same frame. From what I understand inside the neck is somewhat tapered. This all but eliminates using any off the shelf front end that will bolt in. If you want to change the front you will have to modify whatever front end you decide to go with. If you are thinking springer there are a few guys out there that will build you one anyways from $1000-$2500, depending on the quality and finish.

I know there was a member that did replace the stock Triumph front end with a sportster front-end. It did require modification though.
