Having looked at previous threads on how Triumph deals with warranty issues is it fair to say that one can discount the existing warranty on a bike when considering a performance mod. Basically, if I am going to perform an airbox removal, AI removal, battery relocation, etc, should I wait till the warranty runs out or go ahead as the warranty isn't worth the paper its written on. This from reading past remarks on the CDI and starter threads.

Let's not put out a blanket bad-mouth on TR warranty yet! I just got my 2005 Speedie repaired @ n/c for it's exploding starter gear episode. They done right by me out of warranty.

I've been pretty surprised by some of the good things i've heard about the Triumph warranty. I have a feeling a lot of it comes down to your local dealer.

Legally they can only deny a warranty claim if your modification directly caused the failure. So if they claim AI removal caused a brake caliper to seize, I would find a new dealer

+1 on the good warranty. I had absolutely no problem getting anything that needed to be replaced on warranty AND Triumph even replaced my entire engine casing 8 months after my warranty expired.

Pull the snorkel, change to a UNI, add a bellmouth. I would do those things before removing the entire airbox and you won't have any trouble with warranty issues.

It is important to keep a good relationship with your nearest service dealer who can be a huge help with any warranty problem.

Thankfully I didn't have to use my warranty much, but the mods I made to my bike in the first year (complete elimination of the airbox before the Freak ever existed, removal of the AI, etc.) didn't impact warranty claims at all. Now maybe if my engine blew up they'd blame the mods. I had the speedo cable loop replaced, the rear brake switch and a bit on one of my carbs. I suppose the last thing they could've denied. Maybe it's more up to the dealer, but they didn't blink and eye. Maybe the Triumph warranty doesn't care if it's under a certain dollar amount.

One thing for sure, if the dealer does the mods, they wouldn't even mention it to Triumph. I also had my speedo loop replaced, cush drive replaced with T-Bird one, both coils and the igniter, and the entire engine casing (starter failure after warranty expired) all on warranty.

I think Triumph is one of the better bike companies as far as warranty and backing their products.

They replaced Wendy's rotor no charge last summer and her bike is an 04.

That's the answer I was looking for. I don't have any personal experiences on warranties with the bike yet, but the question was put as a query concerning past warranty issues with Triumph, in particular the CDI and starter. These are posted on this site and the RAT site. That's the basis for the question. The problems listed seemed to be half and half between questionable mechs at certain dealerships and Georgia TR. Personally, my dealer has treated me real good. Donated a free Roadster screen to my favorite cause, my TBA.

The end goal was to determine if I go ahead with major performance mods or wait till the warranty expires.

And in truth, TRs CDIs probably go toe to toe with KZ's Stators which were a pet pieve for me personally.

The only mod I waited until after the warranty was up was adding the Big Bore kit. All the carb mods, pipes, intake improvements (with airbox), and sprocket changes I wasn't concerned about at all as far as warranty issues.
