Im pretty sure you got the wrong wires.
The wires change color depending on what side of the plug your on.
The only palce your wires are black or white is close to the signals. Inside the headlight bucket the wires are green/???
According to the wire diagram the wires should be:
Green/white for right
Green/red for left
