I was on my way to work this morning in a hurry going about 5 miles over the spead limit around 55. It was kind of foggy and early. I was following this guy in a pickup or SUV who I thought was running a yellow light but he had stopped and I didn't. I laid on the brakes and just knew I was going to hit him. It was a weird feeling knowing it was going to happen and you couldn't do anything about it. So bam...! I hit him and laid there until he got out of the pick up. I dont even think he realized I hit him until I said can you please help me get the bike up since the traffic was piling up. I actually drove over to an apartment complex parking lot. I couldn't believe the bike was still was driveable. The rim is so badly bent you can see the inner tube. The front fender broke in half and I am missing half of the clutch lever. I limped on to work at 35-40 mph. I am real sore but not hurt badly I don't think. I guess the moral for me is don't rush especially on your bike. It's not going to matter if you are a little late. Duh... I guess everyone knows that. I am very fortunate it was not worse. Still...what a sucky way to start a Friday.

Wow, sorry to hear. At least this is a "Live and learn" story, even tho there will be pain and bruising. The bike is repairable, and hopefully you will too with minimal injury. Take the weekend to lounge about and recover while decidin what kind of upgrades you need to get the bike back up. Glad it's only minor!
later, Tom.
But, what do I know?

At least you have time to get it fixed before the rally! Sorry to hear of your spill though, that sucks.

Yikes, gald to here ya walked away.
I laid mine down a couple of years ago. Bike was ride able and I rode it the 2 hours home. 2weeks later, I had fluid removed from my knee. One tip, vitamin K creme for the bruises, you'll fine it at GNC orVitaminWorld. Apply twice a day and they will be gone in a week.
Do not look back and ask why, look forward and ask, why not?

Good one, Rob!
And Paul, glad to hear it seems you suffered only relatively minor damage here, both physically and to that pretty bike o' yours.
And yep, here's to bein' all fixed up by the time that AR rally starts back there!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Glad you are okay, did a similar thing a couple of years ago, only it was some tiny car, and I barely touched it, but me and the bike hit the ground pretty hard. It all happened because I was impatient. I know what you are going through. I'm sure you're bike will be up and running in no time. Lesson learned. Cheers, Brent

I estimate between 15-25 mph. It was hard to tell it happend so fast. No pics. I don't have a digital camera. I got it home from work though and it is in my garage. When I found out how much a wheel is I decided I am probably going to have to claim it on my insurance. $740 at Bike bandit. I'm thinking for a new fender, wheel, clutch lever and possibly a new tire because there is a hunk out of it, it will be close to $1500 including the labor. Dang, that's almost half the value of the bike. Maybe this is a sign it's time for a new bike?

The Triumph dealer said they could get a new wheel in 3-4 days and said they could have it fixed before the 8th. I just have to get all settled with State Farm tomorrow. I should be good before the rally but it'll be close. That would suck if I had to follow you guys in the Explorer.

The forks actually look okay and don't seem bent or damaged. I am still sore. My left shoulder took most of the punishment. But it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Good to hear that you doing alright. It was a long weekend for me and I guess I didn't reread what I typed. I might the Front Forks on the bike, no damage to them and the bike still tracks straight.

Yeah, I am one of the worst spellers around. I do that all the time and sometime I have to edit threads just because of a mispelled word. Some here have uploaded a spell check somehow. I think I have a mild case of dyslexia.

Glad as ****** that you're okay, my friend.
I had something similar happen allllll the way back in high school. I was riding past another school checking the girls out, and the next thing I knew, I was in the back seat of a Mustang with glass all over me. I wasn't wearing a helmet, and I still don't know how I wasn't decapitated or hurt other than minor scratches and bruises. God looks after drunks and fools, I suppose.

Yeah I tried e-bay. Most are for older Triumphs. I did find a rim for a 865 Bonneville Scrambler but it wasn't quite the right size. It was around $200. Pinwall has about 3 rear wheels and tires for an BA America no front ones. But since I have a fender and clutch lever to replace I will just pay the $250 deductible and have it all done at once, hopefully it will be faster. Thanks for the tips Dog.
