They aren't water proof. They aren't what I would call "luggage". I have a set of the Triumph fabric bags, and though I've never actually used them, they probably hold more than either the top or side loading hard plastic Chinese bags, simply because they're square, and they will "give" a little bit. But they aren't "luggage" either. The problem, in my opinion, with saddlebags on these bikes is that if you get them large enough to be "luggage", you may run into clearance problems between the shocks and the stock turn signals. There are work-arounds for this of course, but these bikes aren't Road Kings or Goldwings. Too big just doesn't look right to me. Again, my opinion.
Whatever works for you......

Like I said above, they are fine for carrying the essentials when you're cruising around locally. Maybe even for an over-nighter.

But they aren't luggage......
