Get an apartment with a garage - sad to see so many bikes just languishing in the elements . There's a bunch of Feenicks peeps on here .

....Another one leaving the midwest! Pheonix was on the short list of places to go for me.

I lived in Tempe for several years. Where you get an apt should depend on where exactly your job is. Get as close as you can to the job at first with a short term lease. Traffic in the Phoenix metro area is terrible, you don't want to be in a nice apartment on the other side of town and have to spend 40 minutes or an hour to go a dozen miles.

Scott - The Phoenix metro area is HUGE!!! The suggestion of finding a place near work is a good one. Traffic is horrible and can take hour + to get across the valley. I have lived in Mesa and Chandler, but that was 9 years ago. Finding a place that has garages is a good idea, but they are not all that common unless its a condo or house. When you interview, ask about housing and neighborhoods - drive around while there for the interviews to get a feel for the neighborhoods. Becky

Ya might want to try Tucson ...down the road aways. Smaller town, fewer criminal elements, less traffic and less overall hassle.
Plus we have a Nationally known basketball program. We are on average four to five degrees cooler in the Summer.
The Phoenix traffic is horrendous. Statistics for MC fatalities in the metro area up there are nothing for them to brag about.

Hey Kevin. The Phoenix Chamber of Commerce just called and asked if there was anything they could do to help make your next stay in their fair city a more pleasant experience for you??? Yep, Scott. Leave it to Kevin here to relay his thoughts about another town/state/country/culture/etc in his patented "diplomatic" way, alright! BUT, I DO have to admit I WAS kind'a thinkin' the same things as he was. And soooooo, IF you're thinking of an Arizona move here Scott, have you considered looking a little NORTH of the metro Phoenix area and up towards the high country of the state, maybe around either the Flagstaff or Prescott area? It's beautiful up there ya know, AND it's always twenty or more degrees cooler than the Phoenix OR Tucson areas.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yep. Flag does get its fair share of the white stuff each winter alright. That lovely, pine tree surrounded city is at almost 7000 feet in elevation, ya know. (uh huh...maybe you've run across a rant or two over the years from Becky about this very thing here at BA.com, HUH?!) However, Prescott at 5300 feet and receiving only a couple of dustings of snow each winter, is juuuuuuuust right for all-year riding. But of course, with Prescott being a smaller town of only about 35,000 folks(about 80,000 in the "Tri-City", that's the towns of Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, BTW), the job opportunities available there would be much smaller than either Flagstaff or the metro Phoenix or Tucson areas.
