Dagnabbitt !!! My RN wife had an AIDS patient and upon disposing of his infected needle she got stuck with it . Seems the protective cap malfunctioned , and in her panic , she tossed the evidence in the biohazard box .
Due to HIPA reg's and the PC general fear of the AIDS community , NO ONE had the fortitude to warn her "this gun's loaded - caution !"
Now she has to take a series of anti-virals that make her deathly sick , and compounds her compromised immune system - she has Lupus and 2 other auto-immune conditions . But she's tough , still works , sick , from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM .
She gets her 58 year old frail body on her 1200 Sportster and rides anyway .

Oh , this guy's idjit PC liberal pastor sat there in his room , witnessed the entire incident , and remained silent . Then he filed a formal complaint against her for creating a "traumatic situation" for his little sheepie .
Now I can't confront "pastor" due to HIPA ( health information protection act).

I still may get him .
I'm done .

pr!ck the pr!ck with a needle and tell him it is infected and see how he likes it. Let him stew a bit then let him off the hook. Then ask him about what he did to her. Bastage.

Addendum - I have an awsome respect for the position / calling of a true pastor , a shepherd full of compassion , don't misinterpret my angst .

I call this guy "pastor" only in the academic sense , he's a hireling and obviously bereft of the compassion required for the office .

Her AIDS patient was truly remorseful , pastor was not .

Wade... no words can say how much this sucks. But I just wanna put it out there that although not accepted by the Western medical community, Ozone Theory works wonders with viral infections (and a LOT of other stuff). It's not readily available but it sure is powerful! Not suggesting anything, just saying what I know.

I too haven't words to express what a ****** of a situation this is.I offer my sincere condolences and hope it all turns out ok for you and your wife.

went thru this same deal about 15 years back, my wife worked at a county hospital, ended up with an 'intentional needle stick' from some crack head the cops weren't controlling. who then refused to be tested for aids (his rights). Turned out okay eventually, after a lot of stress and meds and testing.
She left the medical field after that.

It sounds like your wife is one tough cookie though, just like my late beloved sister Diana was, who also suffered from Lupus almost her whole life. And I'll bet your wife, just like Diana did, probably seldomly if ever complains about all the chronic pain she feels on a daily basis while suffering from it either, right?!

(I always said that if I would've suffered as much as Diana did living with that little-known and still somewhat little understood scourge Lupus, I would've turned out to be an even bigger and more insufferable A-hole than I already am!)

Sorry to hear that Wade, hope the missus is well and everything works out fine (which I'm sure it will).

It's an absolute nightmare dealing with infective sharps, not that I've every been stuck but had a couple of close calls at work with IV drug users who have left used needles in pockets and bags.

Obviously this so called "pastor" needs to get some education and realise the effect that something like this can do to a healthcare professional who puts themselve in a hazardous situation helping others.

Hope she gets the all clear soon - and the pastor gets to some treatment of his own!

You've got my sympathy and prayers Wade, and especially your wife does too.

Hipaa has it's place, but health care professionals need to be protected, so there need to be exceptions so they are made aware of potential hazards.

Thanks for the kind words , the "Flying Nun" is encouraged . In two weeks she leaves for Ethiopia for a 14 day medical outreach , comes home for a week , and then she's off to the Amazon to do clinics there .

HIPAA be d@mned. Anyone with an acute or fatal blood borne disease should have the courtesy & basic human decency to tell those with sharps and at immediate & direct risk what the deal is.
