ok...seriously...the cush drive is the set of rubber bumper thingies sandwiched between your rear wheel and the hub that the sprocket is bolted to. During acceleration there is some give in this to make take off a bit smoother. As the cush drive wears out your take off wont be so smooth. I assume there might be some slop during slow down or braking as well. It keeps your bike from feeling clunky under torque.
