The book says you need a fuel level gauge when you drain your carbs. Anyone does this? Or you just turn your fuel tap back on, and let gravity do it's job?

A piece of clear tubing attached to the bowl drain and held up beside the carb will show you the fuel/float level in the bowls. Not sure of the full scope of your question...

The gas should come up to about the seam between the float bowl and the carb body.

That's a cool idea!! Weird thing is I'm not sure I woulda thought of that and yet I use a water level in construction. Low tech solutions are a rarity these days.
