this past weeks me and my younger son have been looking at
70's to mid 80's trucks and jeeps..as a project for us to work on for his first vehicle.. as we find some that are in our price range and we call about them.. and go take a look after looking we find that this no way near what they are asking for it..when I ask why so high even the blue book say it's not worth that.. that have all said..

CASH FOR CLUNKERS PROGRAM...

seems that people are going around buying older trucks and jeep for a few hundred buck and then going and trad it on new car or truck and getting $4500 bucks..

so now people that have them are say it's worth more because you can get that at the dealer for it..

I thought one of the rules of the program was that you had to own and insure the car for at least a year before it's eligible to trade in. Tell that to the people that think they are worth more because of the trade in.

plus the program ends tomorrow, so you should be able to negotiate your own price without that as their excuse

Tell them to take their old piece of crap and shove it Unless you want a Jeep specifically, there's no reason to pay more than $1000 for and old beater from the 70's/80's. I love the late 70's Broncos' personally.

Dave is right. Also has to be less than 25 yrs old at date of trade in so anything pre 84.

And i like the late 60's early 70's Bronco's better!

But cha know... those old Wagoneers and Cherokees were pretty cool too. Oh, and the Jeep pickups... always kinda liked them. And remember the Jeepsters circa late 60's - early 70s? Now those were sweet. I even fell in love with the AMC Eagles... owned 4 of them. I like Jeeps... my 93 Laredo is rock solid and virtually bullet proof.

You'll find what you're looking for. It's out there just waiting for you!!!

I would love to have a '67-'69 Bronco, but I can't find one of those for less than 4 grand unless it's a total piece of crap that's not even worth trying to restore.

My son's first vehicle was an '85 CJ-7 that was a father/son project. We put a Chevy 350 in it, and spent way too much time and money on it - but man was it fun to drive!

Another one worth looking for is a Powerwagon. We proved once at Ft Polk that they can go places a Jeep can't. You can get mounts for the later ones (60's - 70's) to bolt in a big block or 426 Hemi. For some reason, few people are aware what a great 4WD vehicle these really are.

My brother and I own a 64 Jeep pickup we'd like to get rid of. It has a Chevy engine. The body needs a lot of work. It ran good when I parked it a few years ago. If you're interested, I'll try to put together some pictures.

One unintended effect of c4c is the increase in used vehicle prices reguardless of their age. It's a simple case of supply and demand.

Correct if I'm wrong but didn't you have a lovely old (Ford was it?) pick up in your front yard when we went to your house at the NorEast in '06??

BTW, the cash for clunkers over here says you have to own the vehicle for 1 year or more.

My son's first car was a 79 Datsun 280ZX that we spent many an hour fooling around with. He finally sold it when he got married, I was sure sorry to see it go as it was in fantastic shape by the end. I was tempted to buy it off of him but the wife made a point of bike or Z-car. The Triumph won...

I saw a 77 International Scout today with a for sale sign on it, decided to stop and look. Didn't even get out of the car, could see massive amounts of rust (painted over) on the rear wheel wells, and general rust under the rest of the body, and under the removable top. Sign in the window said $3500. I just laughed, shook my head, and kept going.

Go for a 70's model K-10 4x4. TONS of aftermarket stuff available for them. I've got a buddy that has built two of them... awesome looks with a lift and 35's on em.
